believe it or not this is wicked common. i assume you've tried mixing human food with his kibble, cause that would be my first step. but if nothing truely works i would just keep making his food for him. cooked liver, chicken, lamb, and beef (hamburg style) mixed with some brown rice is just fine. make sure you buy him some vitamin supplements so he's not missing out on any essential nutrients (most small pet stores will have employees well knowledged in supplements). do NOT give him raw meat. though raw diets can be VERY good for dogs, it has to be studied up on, and can do a lot of damage to a dog's digestive system if not introduced properly. but even if her never eats REAL dog food, he can still live a long healthy live with you. (just make sure to brush his teeth regularly, as with any soft food diet those are the main things that are affected.)

I also have a very picky dog. When we got him, we tried kibble, wet food, and every commericial diet we could find, the only thing that he would eat is his new raw food diet. Arby's Roast Beef sandwiches (as yummy as they are) and cooked chicken arn't very good for him, the chicken being much better than Arby's. Being fed from the plate is a horrible thing, behavioral wise, and nutritional-wise. I would suggest going for a raw diet, and I'll include some websites that can help you start, if thats what you choose. If you decide on a high quality kibble (like Canidae), or another diet, this would be a good way to help him learn to eat it. Make sure he hasn't has any food for a good 6 hours or so, so he will be hungry. Put out a bowl of food, and show him where it is, give him 5min to start eating, if he doesn't eat, take it away, and wait another 4-6 hours, then put it out again, 5min, if he doesn't eat, take it away. Don't leave it out, feed him in seperate meals. He will eat it eventually, it shouldn't take longer than a day or two.

In public parties just like the ball park, you ask if the hotdogs are all red meat. If you get an "I have no idea" then order anything else. If invited to a social role in which a meal is being ready, tell the host(es) that you do not devour red meat....do that while invited, no longer as you arrive on the door. If you discover your self at a role in which you haven't any option within the meals and red meat is served, devour extra salad and go through the red meat or forget about it in your plate.

The only recommendation that I can make, is to check with your local pet supply store to see if they carry a product called Merrick, it is an all human grade dog food and it is very palatable for most dogs, it is made in both dry and canned food. Good luck, I hope it helps.
PS-Petsmart and Petco do not carry this brand of food.

My dog is a terrier (Westie), too, so I know what you mean about their stubborness.
I switched my dog to raw food from kibble or any other combination. It takes about a week to really switch them over totally, but it's been the best thing for him. He is a consistent member of the "clean plate club" now!

My sister adopted an older dog like this, she sortof tricked him into eatting dog food by pretending to be serving herself it. Maybe it would work on your Yorkie. Also try different brands of the wet dog food maybe there is some kind out there he'll be willing to try on his own.

Don't let him read the label and put his food on a plate and set it down, human food is not good for dogs, especially with spices, pepper, etc.

Ok this happened to Bella they won't eat dry food. We tricked her by acting like we're eating it and now she loves dry food. ALso don't force it because then they'll be mad at you. Ease and show that you want to help. Hope it helps
