Letters in Spanish don´t always start with -Querido- it is mainly used for people close to one like friends, relatives and loved ones, it is mainly used when a man writes a very close female friend, mother and father, a daughter, a son and very very close male friend, women use it the same but they use it for any kind of friend. Any one not being the former we use -Estimado ( male) Estimada ( female ) which means esteemed

Very well explained Carlitos! I couldnt do any better.

I wouldnt dare to use "Querido" if you are refering to someone with the word Sir. Like said before, Estimado is the best way to start Spanish letters directed to anyone, specially if they arent any close to you.

p.s. explain what exactly you meant up there!!

Letters in Spanish start with "Querido señor," (there is no i in the word señor). but I don't really understand the "ser. ware" part of your question. Did you maybe mean Sergeant someone? because that would be sargento.

Well I'm guessing you mean "sir". It's said "Querido senior" and the N has a tilde over it.... or this "estimado señor"
