You could sin with out having anyone else in mind but yourself.
Even envy has its root in selfishness.

I think that Admiration is often mistaken for Envy. I think that someone who breaks the 10 Commandments to attain an object of Envious Desires is just misguided. As far as envy being the root of most sins..I'd have to say no...Anger would be my choice for that spot in the root of most sins Hall Of Fame. Anger leads to more sins against Humanity than envy could ever dream of.

Yes. The next sin, after Adam and Eve disobeyed God, was when Cain killed Abel, and that was the result of envy.

Googled and placed this on yet another answer board i'd say Envy. the capacity of envy i hit upon is rather damaging. i imagine those who envy are so blinded by jelousy, no individual and by no skill some thing will stand in his or her way. they could attempt to get what they want, even if it really is going to certainly skill hurting the human beings round them. I also discover it the pathway to greed. one which is resentful won't be able to discover one situation sufficient and pleasant, continually to work out someone who posseses some thing extra perfect and they get jelous and want all of it. Sorry do no longer understand the author (((SKY)))

I would say so. If I envied my neighbor's wealth, then I would be tempted to steal my neighbor's money. Envy is usually where the sin starts. I want something that I didn't have before, so I take action to do more.

Well, envy is one of the 7 deadly sins...which are the root of all sins. At least according to religious dogma.

Fear is the root of all sin. We fear obliteration or we fear our diminishment by the advantage of others. Envy or selfishness are just disguises for the fundamental concept. We are actually worried that someone else is more secure and powerful than we are, and therefore a threat to us. It is self-perpetuating. No matter how rich, strong or influential one is, there is still fear that it is not enough. To overcome the motivation of fear, one needs to be comfortable with one's vulnerability, willing to do what is right rather than what is safe.

Nope. Pride is the root of all sins. Including Envy.
"I think I know best. I know better than God. I know better than anybody".
That is the sin of Pride.

satan was put here by god for a reason, to test our faith and loyalties, he "enlightens" us of our wayward ways. lucifer means "lightbearer" or "bringer of light"
adam and eve didnt envy god, they didnt know better, as the bible says the tree was the tree of knowledge, thus they didnt have knowledge of right and wrong before that. its like putting a cookie on the floor infront of ur dog and telling him do not eat it, and then walking away. its all based on instict.
those who killed jesus werent envious, jesus preached against the synogogues, and those incharge of the synogogues held influence over the higher authorities, and thus when jesus told people do not attend them, that took money out of those synogogues. easy enough to believe that they got mad at jesus for this.

No, I believe FEAR is. Satan was afraid of God's power and that he wouldn't be noticed. Adam and Eve were afraid they'll miss out on being godlike. And Jesus's persercuters were afraid He was the son of God like He said. Fear lies within all of us, for example, we don't do the will of God because we are afraid of failing. We don't tell the truth to our friend's new haircut, because we're afraid it will hurt her feelings. It's just something to think about.
