I am impartial to the Australian Shepherd. I have had 2 and they have been the best pets that I have ever owned. They are very intelligent, therefore easy to train. Since they are herding dogs, however, they always need purpose...a job. It doesn't have to be anything major, but something that keeps them busy. Fetching the newspaper, your keys, slippers, etc. Talking them for a nice walk daily is great, too. If they get bored, they may act out...not aggressively, but possibly somewhat destructive at times. They are very friendly, lovable and loyal. You say you like long haired dogs, so hopefully vacuuming daily wouldn't be a problem. If you'd like any other info. on Aussie's feel free to ask. Not much experience with Pomeranians, though. Good luck to you.

Pomeranians are friendly, but may not fulfill you expectations of dog ownership. They are very small, and have a loud, piercing bark. Australian shepherds are just as cute, and not that large. They aren't so great around kids however, and need alot more exercise(they were bred to herd sheep after all). If your lifestyle allows you to give this dog the exercise it needs, the by all means go with the Aussie, but if you do not have time to train and play with the dog much, go with the Pomeranian. If you don't have time for either...get a cat.

Go with the dog that best suits your life style. Do you enjoy long walks, hiking and stuff that requires physical energy? Then go with the big dog. Otherwise you will end up carrying an exhausted little dog. But if your idea of a good time is kicking back and watching the game, then a little dog is right for you. the big dog would go nuts just sitting there watching you.

I personally like the Aussies, but it's not only about what you like, but what you can afford and your living condition. Do you have the time to walk a bigger dog 3 times a day for 30 minutes to 60?
Or are you more of a busy person and can only walk a dog once a day for 30 minutes.
If you are more of a bust person a smaller dog would be best for you and your life style.

just think of the type of dog that would be better for ur life style a pomeranian can be somewhat lazy so if u prefer watching tv over exercising get the pomeranian. an australian shepard likes to run and can be very active. just think about ur lifestyle and think long and hard about this decision

My Husky is big, lot's of hair and scare the bejesus out of people that don't know him. Our yorkie is either a pain in the @$$ or the most affectionate dog I have ever seen. I would take my husky anyday thoug. He comes up a puts his head on your lap and just sits there while you pet him. I guess it just depends on what kind of temperment the dog has. I would go with the big dog just cuz I like big dogs more.

Can you get both? If not, I'd find one of each and see which one you connect with better. I personally like Austrailian Shepards.
