She took our six-year-old out yesterday and when they came home I was informed that my son's new legal name is "Captain Jack Sparrow". He was running around the house all excited. I asked her how she could do such a thing. "Well, I felt bad because we really didn't get him much for his birthday." OMG! I've been crying all afternoon. Is there anything i can do?

In order for a minor (which is what a six year old is), to have their names changed takes a legal process that involves MORE than just one afternoon, it also takes the signature of BOTH parents on the new birth certificate if both parents are still alive or one of them hasn't signed away parental rights. Obviously someone has been out playing in the pature too long and has accumlated a pile of cow pies.

Well, I like the name, but not for 6 six year old, continue to call him by his birth name. If you adopted this child as your own, then you have a right to change it back, if not, then I'm sorry, your wife was stupid to do that, and she isn't strong, she can't handle the nagging of a six year old, then she won't last long

Have your wife check herself into the first mental hospital she needs some serious help not only because she just decided to change his name, she did this behind your back without even given you the respect to voice your opinion even if your his step dad my husband is my girls step dad and I always ask his opinion we are a family. P.S there is something you could do find a normal wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if that is true. then you get your wife to change it back! and ask her if she seriously wants her to introduce her son to people as captain jack sparrow, and give her the job of explaining the loss of your sons 'fantastic new name' and why it had to be changed back.

hmm well if this is true first i take the wife to a shrink and second i would ask her if recreational drugs may have had an influence also maybe consider changing your name to "general" or .... I'm lost on this one maybe research a really cool family name couldn't been worse could have called him Jedd Clampett or George Clooney

You can't get his name changed in one day. You need to make an appointment with the court and publically declare he is changing his name with a posting in the local newspaper. Changing your name is about that easy for those of you who'd like to do it.

You can call him "Cappin" for short. I think it's cute!
My middle son wants to change his name to Jack Sparrow too...but I told him he'll have to wait until he's 18.

Your wife sounds like a nut in a delusional world. I would get her some help, custody of my son and change his name back.

Dont get mad when hes older he will regret and want his name back. Until than let him enjoy his name. As far as your wife goes, she shouldnt have done that without talking to you first. I would have a long talk with her if I were you.
