Homo Erectus or Homo Habilias or one of the other prehistoric races? You can't really say how long ago they lived because sometimes in the bible they skip generations in the geneologies. And Esau was hairy enough that he looked like a hairy garment and Jacob had to put goats fur on his hands to impersonate him. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

D Rocker - How do you know they were not human? The scientific world believes they were early humans.

Terry S - Thanks for the nice witness about Jesus but how do you know I am not born again (which I am) I live for Jesus every day but I also believe the bible coincides perfectly with evolution. Am I a lesser Christian than you because I believe that the 6 days of creation may have been thousand year days? Peter said, "A day to the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day."

I think so. By eating from the Tree of Knowledge Adam & Eve gained a consciousness & conscience, going on to learn what love is & to have the human experience outside of Eden...So definitely, I think that it could be seen as a step in the human race's evolution, eventually leading to homo sapien sapien, us! :)

No. Neither of those two species lived 900 years, like Adam is supposed to. Also, both were populations of individuals, not just a male and a female, as recounted in the biblical narrative.

Also, how would the bible writers know anything about Homo Erectus, Homo Habilis, Neandertal, Homo Ergaster, or any of those? Why would they care? They weren't paleontologists, but theologians.

Adam and Eve can't even be see as a metaphor for early human existence. The story just doesn't match the reality.

As far as the Esau and Jacob story goes, it was a recounting of the origins of the constant squabble between the Israelites and the Edomites (who were seen by the Israelites as being hairy, stupid people), as well as their eventual reconciliation.

I never thought of the hair aspect. I like it, but that follows Tubal-Cain a worker of metals (4:22). Of course, Tubal-Cain is described a an iron worker even though the Hebrews had no iron working until David took it from the Philistines. Certainly, given the complexity of Homo habilis tools, it is not unreasonable to assume that he could have had the spark of insight that is the soul, and the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Could Esau have been the last Neanderthal displaced by Jacob the Cro-Magnon? Sorry about the jumble of ideas, but the chronologies are dancing in my head. I always thought of Abram as bringing monotheism to Egypt, but it has been attributed to Moses as well. More to think about. Fortunately, I'm not strict about early Biblical chronologies.

It's because you don't study the bible enough, a day to God is equal to a thousand of our years. You do the math, and there is nothing to discount other inhabitants on earth prior to Adam and Eve such as the cavemen, for instance. The importance of the story of Adam and Eve is the beginning of humanity as emenated by God or a greater being, they were seperated and created in the garden of Eden, to which the door has been closed to us due to the fact that Adam and Eve (the human race) disobeyed God and seeked the knowledge of the difference between what is right and what is wrong, and the rest as we say is history. Good luck in your studies, may God bless you with eyes to see and ears to hear so you can conclude what is the truth and know it is so, because you have faith in what has been shown you. Peace

No, the Bible is clear on the genealogies. Adam and Eve lived from about 5180-6120 years ago.
Homo Erectus and Habilias have not actually been found yet, only presumed to have lived.

Yeah. Like said before, if there was Homo Erectus etc in existence, it proves evolution.

Adam and Eve (even if they only represent the first humans) were Mesopotamian. They were forerunners of the Sumerian and Accadian people of the lower Tigris, Euphrates Vally. History has been unbroken and continuous since.

no because if you believe that adam and eve werent human, then the whole idea of creationism is proven to be false. homo erectus was not a human and therefore, according to creationists, they werent made in the image of god. for a creationist to even believe that homo erectus exists is proving evolution and therefore proving the idea of creationism wrong.

Read this slowly:

If there is no chance of Adam and Eve's existance, how would there be a chance that Adam and Eve could've been Homo Erectus or Homo Habilias?

Dont you find it odd that you know your bible very well sometimes better than most Christians and there are those of us that would die for Jesus Christ and those who curse his name everychance they get.

Unless a man be Born Again he canonot understand the things of God they seem foolish to him . you will never understand the WORD OF GOD untill you die to yourself and start living for Jesus , and believe me its a much better life to know that I am saved and heaven bound than to go thrue life doudting everything written in red
