I'm new to the violin and have recently discovered something almost sticky but not really...(it's hard to discribe) on my strings.

Is this from using too much rosin on the bow?? or something else?

its the rosin that you put on your bow, just get a cloth and whipe it off. It happens a lot.

When rosining your bow do it in a down bow pattern only and about 4 strokes and a bit more on the top and bottom. Dont use rosin too much or it will affect your playing.

hope this helps.

Too much rosin....wipe it off by holding a cloth over the string, and rubbing the string up and down, not side to side like the bow direction. There should really only be rosin at the point you play- between the fingerboard and bridge, if it's in other spots, it might not be rosin.

This is just natural rosin build-up. It will hapen with any use of rosin. After you play, use a durable, but soft cloth to wipe off the rosin. I use a piece of flannel, because it doesn't leave behind residue like tissues will. Some old undershirts that you can cut up will also work well as a cloth.

That's just normal rosin build-up. Clean it off with a soft cloth and some rubbing alcohol.
