Some clouds are white and some are "black" due to two chief reasons:

1) optical thickness and

2) viewpoint and/or background (contrast).

I think the reason for differing colors of clouds is differing levels of density. Dark clouds contain more water molecules and therefore the amount of light reflected from the sun is less than in more airy, less dense white clouds. Therefore it makes sense that the darker clouds are more likely to result in rain, although white clouds also contain precipitation and can result in rain as well, even though it is less likely or will be less intense.

Well the most striking difference between the two is moisture content. The white clouds are made up of millions of tiny moisture droplets but not enough to form rain drops that would fall the the ground. The black clouds, however, contain much more moisture in them enough to block out the sunlight thereby making them appear black.

White clouds reflect up to 95 percent of sunlight but when a cloud is very thick, the sunlight is scattered inside the the cloud which makes it look gray or black. All clouds are composed of water but the larger they are, the more rain you get.

Whiteness of clouds is caused by sunlight shining on upper and side surfaces. All clouds of any depth or density are darker underneath. If a cloud is dark on its sides or top, it is usually because it is obscured from the sunlight by other clouds or other natural features. White clouds certainly do contain water.

i think of the reason of differing colours of clouds is differing stages of density. dark clouds incorporate extra water molecules and consequently the quantity of sunshine meditated from the sunlight is decrease than in extra ethereal, much less dense white clouds. consequently it fairly is clever that the darker clouds are plenty extra possibly to bring about rain, besides the undeniable fact that white clouds additionally incorporate precipitation and might bring about rain besides, besides the undeniable fact that it fairly is way less possibly or would be much less extreme.

I think white clouds are for snow, but I could be wrong. This sounds like a job for Meteorologist Man.
