or would you have to send it all through email and open it and save it that way?
Im trying to load all documents onto a laptop for my daughter before christmas, she has lots of different symbols pop star pics etc in her msn messenger, when she signs onto a laptop with the same msn messenger email address, will it be there? if not how can she get them back?
Plus any saved documents or favourite sites, will she have to find them and save those again too?

your best bet is to buy one of those memory sticks, they are sooo cheap on ebay... just transfer the data little by little using that

First off, that's an awesome Christmas present.

Depending on the size of the data you are going to need to transfer, you might just want to pick up a 1 gig memory stick and transfer the files that way. I wouldn't imagine the total data transfer would be much more than a couple gigs, unless she has a ton of music and movies or something on the PC.

As for all the different symbols and "pop star pics," that might be a different story. First, msn messenger would have to be installed in the new laptop, and then the "pop star pics" would have to be in the same directory that they were in on the PC for the pictures to work. You could do it manually, of course, but that might be quite a hassle. I don't know how detailed I should get here. All the favorites and internet sites can be found in the folder that the guy three or four posts up mentioned.

EDIT: Didn't realize Windows XP had a data transfer wizard; try that first for sure.

Yes, you can do it. If both computers use Windows XP, you can use a built in part of Windows to do it either via a special cable (which you may already have).

Click Start then All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and then click on "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" which should be able to guide you though the process.

(Edit) Sorry, it doesn't seem like you can use a CD or DVD burner with the transfer wizard. There are lots of other programs on the net that you could use though.

u can creat a internal network between the PC and the laptop. than transfer the files and the Favorites from the PC to the laptop via the network. the favorites are saved under C drive--> documents and settings--> than the user name like(mike) and than under the star favorites.

Yes it is possible.. and there are a number of ways to do so!!

One of them is to do that via blue tooth -- you can simply install the blue tooth software on the PC. Copy all the data into that and than transfer that data to the laptop thru blue tooth... (i'm assuming your laptop has the bluetooth..)
