If so what do you take and does it work? I already use abbreva to speed up healing which really works awesome but I would like to know how to prevent them from appearing in the 1st place.

Yes, I do, and no, I don't have genital herpes. I get microdermabrasion sometimes for my skin and this triggers cold sores so the dermatologist has me take Valtrex for three days before and three days after a treatment. This way I never get one. Also if I feel like I am getting a cold sore (such as itching by the corner of my mouth or slight redness there) I will take two that day and one the next. Then it never develops. Good luck.
