I guess there is some room for debate. The best definition I've heard is: "When the body is so used to the drugged state, that this becomes the normal state and it becomes stressful to the body to not be drugged." That source was separating physical addiction from psycological ones, which would include habituation and dependence. You could extend these definitions beyond drugs to other things.

It is an addiction if you can't control it or if you hide it. It really depends on what you are concerned about being an addiction.

by definition, something becomes an addiction as opposed to abuse when 1) tolerance is experienced and 2) withdrawal, either physical or psychological occurs in the absence of it.

Anything that you HAVE TO HAVE and can not control the urge to get.

Booze, smokes, diet coke, even people. When you can't help yourself but to obtain and or consume the desired object, no matter how hard you try.

(says the woman on her 5th smoke in 3 hrs)

it's all about the mind. you wake up and you want to do it. addictions arent good, and you know that yet you still cant live without it. you'll do almost anything to have it. you make promises that you wont do it, yet something draws you back. I READ UP ON IT.

well, usually they get agressive when you try to take something away from them. Like taking alcohol away from someone you think is addicted. With most people, if you take something away they will be offended, but they will not start shouting.
