I think they're unConstitutional because the purpose is religious, nothing more. Everybody should be free to abide by their own sabbath and I don't have problem with legislation that protects that right. But blue laws force people to abide by specific religious practrices. Thomas Jefferson said,"It is wicked and tyrannical to compel any man to support a religion in which he does not believe." I think that includes compelling religious practices as much as it does using tax monies to build churches.

I don't have a problem with laws that regulate commerce if there is a compelling public interest. For example: a law against selling alcohol at sporting events might be good thing because it cuts down on rowdy behavior. But a law that says you can't sell beer on Sundays is only on the books because of the belief that it's wrong to buy beer on the Lord's Day. There is no real public interest for such a law apart from the desire to impose religion.

Blue laws are a misnomer. Blue is the color of the 10 commandments, and not the pagan suns day. They (the blue laws) restrict my right to practice my faith and should be done away with. I should not be made to attend church or cease work just because someone else wants me to on their day of worship, they do not have that right. I have the same right to do as I please on the suns day as on any other day, and I deify anyone to say otherwise.

I agree that there should be separation of church and state. Why should one group's religious traditions be imposed on everyone in the nation (or the world, for that matter)? Note the use of the word "tradition." Ask your local Catholic priest or bishop--the Roman Catholic church is very proud of the fact that it has most Protestant denominations following its lead in worshipping on Sunday. The Catholic church's own literature and documents state that they changed the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday. The change was made not days, not months, not even years, but centuries after the ressurection of Jesus Christ. Catholicism has, does, and will continue to put tradition above Biblical principles and doctrine. Again, this is according to their own documents. Take a look at Vatican II and its resolutions. I say, let us all choose to worship on the day we choose. Talk to your employer about your beliefs and ask for Sunday off if you feel strongly about it. I do the same for Saturday.

God didn't have any "blue laws" so why should we legislate our fellow mans conscience. He created us with the power of free choice. What ever happened to separation of church and state. If the government tells me when I can shop, which freedom will I be asked to give up next?

From a Jewish perspective, they suck. The neighborhood where I grew up was about 75% Jewish and yet they made the stores owned by Jews close on Sunday. But the Jewish merchants always closed on Saturday because that was their holy day, so why should they have to close on Sunday? It simply bigotry and that's why.

I'm not currently a business owner, but if I ever am, I pity the fool that tries to enforce them on me.

You'll see me addressing the Supreme Court if need be.

I wish they still existed large scale. I know many who would love to attend services but cannot because they have to work retail or fast food so that others can shop on that day.
