Cats hate the smell of oranges, so you can probably make some creative orange peel decorations or lay orange peels around the base of the tree. If that doesn’t work, lay large, unstable items around the tree, so that they cant jump into the branches. Also, always have a squirt bottle handy so you can spray your cat when she starts climbing. If all of that doesn’t work, get one of those small model trains that run around your Christmas tree. Cats hate electronic devices and even if the train is not on, the cats will learn to recognize it as something they don’t want to go near.

(please note: don't spray her when the chrismas lights are on)

Hi I had a cat for 11yrs and she passed away a year ago I know have a new male kitty who is about 8mnths old the first thing I did was to put my tree up without anything on it I left it uo for a couple of weeks until he was used to it the I went step by step putting up the lights and the garland I only put up a few ornaments at the bottom of the tree so he would not view them as a threat but every once in a while my kitty still likes to show the christmas tree who's the boss this might work for you the most important thing to remember is to have fun with your cat this is a special time of year for the both of you

There are many possible solutions besides spraying your tree:

A) Put a barrier of some sort around your Christmass Tree to prevent your cat from making contact

B) I'm sure there are some kinds of materials they sell that repel cats (Liquids?) that you can use (NOT ON YOUR CAT). You could put it on your Christmas Tree or around it to prevent your cat from coming near.

C) (IF) You'r Christmas Tree is in a room that you dont use very much (that has a door) just close the door when no ones using it or when someones in it.

D) Keep watch and everytime you see your cat going near the Christmas Tree, carry him/her away.

E) Occupy your cat, you could get him/her a scratching post, a self automated toy, a remote controlled mouse (Yes they do sell those, I know for a fact ((I have one)) ).

F) This isnt exactly my best choice...Shut her up in a room with marbles and toys that she could play with, and someone to play with (I wouldnt though)

G) Get/Make something that would grab your cat's attention from the tree (You could take some boxes and make a play house or a tunnel of some sort, or buy a post or play pen)

H) Again, not the best choice, move you Christmas Tree to a basement or attic (Somewhere that you dont use) until (A couple days before?) Christmas Eve or Chrismas

I) If there are ornaments and other strings and catchy things on your Christmas tree remove them until Christmas Eve- You could have a family get-to-gether and hang them back up again

J) Punish your cat (Not harshly) everytime he jumps on your tree, spray it, flick it's nose, toss it (GENTLY) away, ect.

Since cats don't like to walk on anything that is very smooth or slippery, you can try getting a 100% rayon or polyester tree skirt. You cat will be deterred by the slick surface whenever she gets near it.
You may also want to check what kind of tree you have. Your cat is attracted to some types of trees, others not.
We usually get a frasier fur or a pine tree. All our cat does is sleep under it!
You can try an another solution: Buy (or grow your own) catnip grass, to keep your cat preoccupied.
Your cat may be interested in the tree soley because you have no other live plants in the house - you may want to get some houseplants that you can easily grow during the winter.

My friend gave up and doesn't have a Christmas tree in living room but on the balcony. She was afraid that her cat would eat Christmas tree decorations and would do harm herself. Well, it is the price she pays for being responsible for her cat's health but I understand it and I would do the same

I used to have a cat that as quickly as he replaced into 4 months old he might bounce on the tree from the stairs and actually journey it right down to the floor. After the fourth time, I positioned a cord around the tree and tacked it to the wall. bear in mind no tinsel, no present wrap ribbon as the two could reason severe intestinal obstruction. ( discovered this out with yet another cat and the vet invoice replaced into severe) positioned the the breakable adorns up greater, and with the tacking it could save your tree.

Just enjoy your cat, my cat is exactly the same, i just clap my hands when she goes near it, but she still has a go when you are out of the room!

Try leaving a bauble or two on the floor and this may provide a distraction to play with for a while.

As long as they dont swalllow tinsel or chew on lightbulbs, there's no problem. I don't think there is a solution either, it's just cats 4 u!
