Yes and no.
Yes, if the braids are done too tightly and if they are not properly washed and lubricated. Sometimes the braids are too heavy and pull at the scalp.
No, if the braids don't traumatize the roots of the hair, recieve proper washing and moisture.
Braid can allow the hair to rest and promote growth if they are done well and are maintained properly.
"Braid extensions will grow your hair beautifully if not put in too tight, too heavy, and kept moisturized and strengthened. The hair extensions protects, but also absorb an amount of your hair's natural moisture. I'll show you how to keep your hair in good condition, even in braid extensions. I grew my hair waist length with my Braid Regimen Technique--so can you regardless of your age, gender, or your afro-textured hair type(s). I invite you to follow the Braid Regimen to keep your hair healthy and long."

Braids most famous stylists were the Amazons. There was
a period of early explorers that used the braid as official rank.
The long braid was delegated to the noobs, and rookies cut
the braid a length shorter, then shorter again to hunters and
troops. Finally the braid would come back long again though
now with more braids. The goddess temple of the warriors
of Sardinia women were said to wear 7 parted by the ranking.
The longest one directly on top over a circle of six more. One
good effect was that the braids were called upon to pull them
when fallen overboard, or climbing donkey hills slipping down.
Nowadays it is thought to be popular with olympians.

Well I sure don't think so, do you mean a regualr braid or like getting a lot of little braids like in Jamaica or something, because I got mine done there before and no, some strands of hair might break off but not a big deal... =]

i say regular braids aren't bad but if you put your hair in corn braids every day or every months or week then yeah its bad. It gives you split ends and rips your hair out. If you do do corn braids then you should do it like every three months or so because that can damage your hair and so can twisties. Plus those are out of fashion.

Depending on the tightness of the braids. If they are too tight, it will cause the hair to break off. If they aren't very tight there is no problem at all
