That is a great question, and I admire you for forming that question for us to ponder! Thank you very much!

Giving the root of evil to a church. lol very nice. How ever..
Money is not the root of all evil. Satan is the root of all evil. Money is an economic tool we mortals use for trade. Nothing more. Some of the things people can use it for is evil. But that is a choice that people make on their own. Best wishes.

The scripture says the .."The Love of Money"..... not money itself...If money was evil we all would be broke and have to be taken out of this world. What the scripture is saying is if money is your god, if money is your motivation, do you worship money, if you are willing to do anything or hurt anybody to get money, etc.... And the love of money opens that individual up to all kinds of other evil spirits and activities. And we give money at church b/c it costs money to run a church... Just like it costs money for you to stay in your home, and drive your car. This world operates on money so how can you get anything done if you don't have sufficient funds?

If you are going to quote the Bible, please do so correctly...
The love of money is the root of all evil.
Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs

It would be more logical if you quoted the scripture correctly -
"For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But flee from these things you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness." 1 Timothy 6:10
Anyone who puts money before God is likely to stumble, even church leaders. So, for Christians reading this, ask for a financial report from your church! Hopefully ,wherever you tithe
the funds are going to promote the gospel of Christ.

It's the LOVE OF money that's the root of all evil, and giving your money to something that you feel is a good cause is a good way to keep that love of money in check actually.

Money is not the root of all evil. The Bible says that the "LOVE" of money is the root of all evil. That kind of aligns to the giving of money to the church (unless you love it). Money is necessary - that is our means of exchange (moreso than in Biblical days). By the way, this is probably the most misquoted passage in the Bible so don't feel bad.

It's not money at the root of all evil, it's the love of money. You can't serve two masters. Meaning the love of money or the love of the Lord.
Re-read the scripture.

Because when you are continually chasing money, and wanting money and idolizing money you cannot serve God and fulfil his purposes.
When you give it away, you are no longer idolizing money, and you are using it to fulfil God's purposes, so it is no longer a source of evil.
All temptations can be obtained with money, but if you remove money, you remove a huge source of temptations.
Money is given to the church to feed the poor and clothe the widows and care for the orphans (loosely paraphrased), and since Jesus told us to do these things we are following biblical scripture and that is not evil.

Because I don't believe that statement and anyway I believe the original quote was "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil".
