When I start up my WindowsXP I get tese two little screens that read "DrvmCD" and "Diagnostic Traces" on thier title bar. The one titled "Diagnostic Traces" says "SSDIAG activated" as the first command. What is this? What does it mean? Is it bad, and if so how do I take it off or get it fixed?

I guess those are related to cd burning software like sonic and usually related to miising/corrupt file status. In you dell CD, there should be sonic or whatever cd burner included. You can reinstall that to fix it.
Now, if you don't have CD, then you have the following choices:

1) Fix the problem: Install ccleaner(www.ccleaner.com). It is a nice little free program that does many good things(delete junk files, delete invalid registry, uninstall software, edit startup options etc) for you. Now, for your case I recommend that you run ccleaner to clean junk files. Then, go to tools, stratpup. there you uncheck the boxes against any entry related to cd burner like sonic. In fact you can uncheck option for anything you don't need. Just be careful not to uncheck any entry that shows c:windows system or anything related to your antivirus program.

if you do that, then those popup screen should not appear anymore.

2) Permanent fix or uninstalling cd burner like sonic: You simply uninstall sonic from add/remove program. if you can't do that way, uninstall using ccleaner. Then clean your system junk files, clean "issues>registry" using ccleaner again. restart computer.
Now, install free cd burning software "cdburnerxp pro". This is a great one and much powerful than many others. Most importantly its free. get it from: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php

Hope it can help solve your problem.

Sounds like you have Sonic DVD or some other Sonic Software installed and they usually run at startup to enable DVD playback on insert...if you want to disable it go to Start, Run, type in Msconfig, click Ok...click the Startup tab and go through the list until you see those two entries, uncheck them, click apply or Ok then reboot

These are both most likely spyware. I know SSDIAG is for sure. Get a spyware program, and have it delete them both. i.e. Adaware and Spybot. You can get them from download.com
