You better get working on the socializing very soon, or this will be his temperament. Some hobby breeders do temperament testing on their pups---but not all, and many 'breeders' who aren't involved in dog sports lie. Obedience training helps because it builds confidence, but everyone in the household has to work with the dog.

As a breeder of German Shepherds i would say your dog has both a temperament and socialization problem. The first thing i would recommend is to call the breeder .And second if your going to keep the dog you must not let the dog run and bark it only makes the dog worse. And what good is a protection dog that runs from everyone. He should be bold and outgoing in every situation.A six month old puppy should love everyone. Hang in there and good luck with the other puppy, hope she doesn't pick up on the behavior or you'll have twice the trouble......

You have got to keep working with your dog. He sounds like he may have come from a poor situation and a bad breeder. Poor thing. He may need medication if it persists, but medication is NOT the only way, you must get him into a good training class and lots and lots of socialization.

I had the same trouble with my little Pomeranian - you just have to be patient, and socialize, socialize, socialize!! Try carrying some treats with you when you go for walks and letting people come up and either pet or talk to him. Give him a treat for each interaction that he doesn't run completely away from, or give the people a treat to give him so he trusts them. It means you will have to be a little bit social with them, but it will work!!! Try this in the house too when people come over. It worked well for my food loving doggie!

Your dog is probably going thru a secondary fear period -- I agree with your vet, keep socializing, find a good obedience or agility class and take him there. If he acts scared you must not support that by pampering him -- reward him for being braver, but don't punish him for being scared. Talk to the breeder if they are a reputable one -- they should be able to help you.

Yep soclization is critical , but keep in mind he is a PUPPY still and puppies are the ones being protected in a wild pack not the protectors so they SHOULD NOT be trying to take on all intruders till they get a mite older
