Linus Pauling, two time winner of the Nobel Prize, espoused his "cure" for the common cold: one gram of Vitamin C per hour. IT WORKS!
This is not a cure, however. It is a means of relieving a cold's symptoms. If you stop just as soon as you begin to "feel OK", those symptoms will return immediately. Take the pills for seven days and use an alarm clock.
A cold usually lasts for a week; with professional intervention, it will take seven days.

The only thing you can do is see the doctor if you think you are running into infection. Other then that you need plenty of sleep and maybe cold medicine. I would ask the pharmacist as different medications help different things from congestion to stuffiness. Eat healthy and stay warm and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid milk as that makes you worse with a cold at times. Take vitamins, especially C. Also, find stuff to do that makes the time go while you are resting. Go play some games or answer these here questions.
PS: Tziporrah B above me has a point. Any type of food such a salami will make you sweat the cold out.

It depends on what your symptoms are but take a dose of vitamin C and zinc, a multi vitamin and drink water throughout the day. When your body is fighting off viruses it needs to be hydrated to repair itself quickly. Sometimes a little caffeine can help pep you up. Eat nutitious foods, not junk. I'm not feeling too hot today either. Feel better!

Dayquil is a quick fix. However, you;ll do yourself a favor if you take good care of yourself. Plenty of sleep, plenty of fluid, no caffeine, less food (yes, less food). Make yourself sweat a lot by drinking herbal teas and eating rise soup. Shower twice a day to wash all that stuff that come out of your pores away.
