To give up, no longer have any rights that go along with a specific citizenship. To no longer be able to claim citizenship of your native country.

are you speaking about the us citzenship app oath? that means you give up your former ctizenship to all other nations. you have no allegiance either to the foremr nation. the us generally does not like to honor dual citizenship like some other nations do.
