Hello Kat... Your cat(s) are just being playful, or they could have seen you washing the bowl and seem to think it entertaining as to do it themselves. Its perfectly normal for them to do that, nothing is wrong with their food bowl at all.
But be careful, they could make the bowl over flow and leave a nasty mess on the floor - Try to make sure they don't leave the socks/paper in their food bowls so they can actually eat and not starve them selves.
There really is no need to worry, your cats are just being playful. They could even be adopting a human nature as to try to help you clean the dishes - This is what makes cats so wonderfully mysterious!

My husband's dog does this when he eats. It's a protection for the food or where the food is to be. He also drags his nose against the floor by the bowl if he has nothing to cover it with, just uses the action. So maybe cats do it also!

My kitten will take her toys with her to her food dish when she goes to eat. It's normal to find toy mice, drinking straws, and yes, hubby's socks, lying by her food dish.
I think it's because she's hunted and "killed" the toy and now she has to eat it.
I'm not sure why they would do so AFTER eating, but maybe they're also hunting "food".

My kitty does this too. She puts her beanie babies in her dry food bowl, she puts them on top of the food, then she would eat around the beanie baby. Sometimes she even put's them in her water bowl, I guess she thinks they need a bath :-) ..

Nah. they could no longer sense free with you yet it really is their problem. in the journey that they don't desire friends feeding their cat, they ought to save it of their backyard. yet convinced, in case you leave foodstuff out each and each and every of the time, you've gotten different animals exhibiting up. perfect to positioned it out once you spot him and get rid of the leftovers at the same time as he's done.

Yes. I'm sorry to tell you this, but your cat has an eating disorder. And possibly a drinking problem.
