Okay, I've heard that there are lots of people who claim to be Jedi (if you haven't heard of a jedi, they are kind of like monks with super powers from the 'star wars' films). They are even trying to get it recoginised as a real relighion. I just want to know, are they all completly insane, or just out of touch with reality?

No more insane that the rest of us. They would have to establish a doctrine and live by it's law.

Hey, if we can accept that some guy 2k years ago's death was our one chance to live in the creator's house, then believing in the Force can't be too far off.

The biggest problem the Jedi Order is going to have is that they were the law keepers of the time. They were very against the separation of Church and State. In fact, they were the Old Republic's police force. Now, if they can get around that, it could work.

If they start using figures like Master Yoda and Master Windo as gods, then it's fake. There are no gods in that religion. Only the Force.But....if they actually lived the way that the Jedi order taught... If they could really exists as the order was meant to. It would be a beautiful thing.

Of course, where you have Jedi, the Saith will be. so plan for it.

It's an interesting idea. . . . what these people perhaps don't know is that when George Lucas came up with the Star Wars concept he was, by his own admission, borrowing from the King Arthur legends (heavy with Christian ideology) and the codes of conduct of medieval orders of knighthood (like the Crusaders) - also based on Christian ideals.

I guess maybe it's more cool to some people, to be 'Jedi' than 'Christian' - but I do like the idea of combining some of the Christian-based virtues the knights embraced with modern life. It's a good thing.

I also wanted to be a Jedi when I was 7. But at that time I also wanted really bad to have a magical ring that fulfils your wishes when you twist it around your finger...

Oh, and by the way, although I was 7 and I wanted these things, at the same time I knew very well they are fictional and I'm never going to get them.

Now you can draw the conclusion on the Jedi wannabes.

It's just a group of people trying to base their lives around a storybook, but hey, is that not the case with all religion? The insanity is when they attempt to force their beliefs on others by whatever means. I am awaiting the first Jedi suicide bomber.

I've never heard of a Jedi being offensive or attempting to harm another religion or religious follower.

At worst, harmless idealists. At best, a new hope.

Well when you consider religion is based on the faith of the believer this religion is just as valid as the next. Considering that no one here can provide absolute physical proof that Jesus Christ had divine powers and yet millions believe he did, how can anyone comment about being in touch with reality?

They were able to get enough people to put it on the British census form last time to get it mentioned. It would not take very many more to get it recognized as a religion. I think that would be so sweet. In the USA you can make a religion basically by filling out a few forms. Over there they need a certain number of adherants to be counted.

A lot of the Jedi teachings make a lot more sense than most Christian teachings...

I imagine, though, that these Jedis don't posess the powers of the Jedi from Star Wars, but just follow the Jedi teachings. Of course, I could be wrong...

Its only the same as any other religion.
Its just taking a fictional story and following its teachings.

The difference is that the Jedi devotees are doing it tongue-in-cheek for a laugh, they know its not really true.....so who are the insane ones???

They've probably seen the insane-ness of current religions and the lucrative takings that the churches take in its name and have decided that they too want a part of this commercial enterprise.
They deserve every amount of success that I wish other religions - all they need is the same number of insecure followers
