Beacause too many families are bringing up their children on fast food or quick meals in between sports, drama club, meetings, etc. So kids don't really have much time in the kitchen. I'm in my early 30's and I love to cook... wish I could do it more. But I know I love it because we sat down at the dinner table as a family when I was growing up. And my mother taught me how to cook and bake... and now I am so grateful!

It isn't! I and my seven younger siblings cook on a regular basis, or at least help make the meals. Mom assigns jobs like chopping or frying or making a sauce depending on the ages and we all help. It is lots of fun and the older we get the more we do ourselves.
I'm 18 and can make anything from soups to bread to dessert or whatever. All I need is a recipe and I'm good to cook. I love to cook. Cooking is far from being a lost art at my house.

Because past generations didn't have prepared convenience foods, microwave ovens, and a multitude of drive thru restaurants. Also, due to the high cost of living in most parts of the country, women work, and there are only so many hours in a day, so something has to give, and if you can have carrry out, then you can have your cake (time to spare) and eat it too (even if it's burgers from Wendy's). But with all the food/cooking shows on tv now, maybe cooking will come back (Rachel Ray, anyone?)

My great-grandmother just passed away a couple of months ago, and our family made a recipe book of all of her recipes, I absolutely LOVE it! I love cooking and making some of the great things she did! I also have some of my mom's recipes that were handed down to her from her mom... so I think it depends on what younger people you are talking about... I'm 24 almost 25. Depends on the person too. Some people hate cooking, others love it, some are imbetween-everyone is different.

My husband and I cook a good meal every night. My adult daughter lives with us and usually gets fast food or opens a can of SpaghettiO's for her and her son. She can't use a knife well to cut up simple things like apples. When I was growing up I had certain jobs when it came to fixing meals, starting with setting the table, then I learned to make biscuits and cornbread, then I was taught to cut vegetables and put together the salad, etc. I tried that with my daughter and she just refused, she has never been interested in learning to cook. My grandson is interested in watching us cook, he's 5. I hope I can teach him something.

I don't know but the generation is missing out on some good food.
Maybe there is a book out there that they could buy like the one I used when I was first learning to cook. It was called "Cooking for Beginners", and it explained everything, even, yes, boiling water.
It's out of print now though, as I found out when I was trying to get one for a friend. It was a great book, tho, easy to read and understand.

I LOVE TO COOK AND BAKE. I am 17, and I cook at every chance I get. hopefuly next school year i will be in culinary school. my hole family including my greatgrandma, my grandparents, my aunt, my uncle, and my cousins look forward to eating my cooking at christmas every year. also i bake lots of trets for my dad to give to his co-workers every year. in the last 2 days i have made... 3 loves of sourdough bread, 45 bags of cookies (with 4 cookies each) and 30 mini 7-UP poundcakes. i will be making even more stuff tonight. at my church I am well known for my cooking as well, mostly for my french pumpkin soup (i got the recipie from a freind of mine who lives in france). so the art of cooking is not completely lost to younger people.

because there are alot of working couples and they have nt any time for cooking what with the schedules they are keeping. this world pushess us to our limits with appointments and rushing around and things that have to be done. you are considered a bad, lazy person if you have children and the mother decides to stay home and be just that, a mother. these young people today are under a lot of pressure to work and earn and spend. its a vicious cycle. where have all the moms gone? they are all at work!

Because a lot of parents have a busy schedule and just don't find the time to cook a meal as often. It's either fast food, pizza, or pop-in-the-microwave meals to save time.
