Our little boy is due on 18 January 07. I love the name Daniel, but we probably won't use it because its too high up in the 'most popular names' polls. We really like Luke too and this is our fav at the moment. We also like Nathan, but I read an article sometime ago which refered to Nathan as a 'chavvy' name.....would you agree with this? How popular is Nathan these days? I don't know any little boys called Nathan, and I love it. That stupid article has just put me off!! I'm all ears for some ideas on names too, we like classic, strong, boys names. Thank you!

"we like classic, strong, boys names" what like Luke? very classy. He'll go through life with people calling hims "Skywalker" and saying "No Luke, I am your father"

Nathan is s good name, thing is with Nathan and Daniel they will become Nate and Danny, do you want this or would you prefer a name that won't be mutated?

What about Brian, that's a strong traditional masculine name. Or Gilbert

Good luck with the kid

When I was training to be a teacher, I came across an article that had Daniel listed as the child most likely to be naughty, Luke was the most cheeky. The idea behind the article was that Teachers had a sterotypical view of the child before teaching. For girls it was Chloe and Chelsey.

Has to be said the only Daniel I taught was really naughty, as was Chloe. Luke was not naughty, but just had a very runny nose.

Harry, Jack, James etc are all strong, but common. What about something like Ethan or Elliott.

Congrats on your little boy though.

Well, I'm guessing you are in the U.K. because you used the term "chavvy," so I looked up the top baby names in the U.K. and in 2005 (most recent record they have) Nathan was at #35 for boys. Luke is #13. Daniel is #6. I can't really answer whether Nathan is "chavvy." It's not considered low class in the U.S. if that helps at all.

Nathan is a good name. Not too common which is good. My son is Shane and there are no other Shane's in his class. If he was a girl he was going to be Hailey and there are soooo many 12 year old Hailey's now! Just remember this after your son is born and named, when you hear the name Nathan you will no longer connect it with the magazine. You will think of that sweet, precious baby boy! Congrats (my opinion --boys are the best!)

Nathan is a beautiful name and I think that it is perfectly manly. It is a name that isn't overly common but which will always be 'in'. You know what I mean by that. Like Doris for a girl is seriously 'out' at the moment. It has a good strong meaning and it is a name that no one would ever call a girl so therefore it is perfect for a boy

My little boy is called Nathan. I live in a small village and there are no other Nathans at his school. In the local town where he went to nursery there wasn't any Nathans either. I had never even thought of the name 'Nathan' when I was choosing names for him. But when he came out it just sprung to mind, it just suited him. I think its a lovely name.

I don't have a clue what's popular at the moment, but don't worry too much about that. Nathan is nice.
I always liked Adam, Liam, Martin for boys and Julia and Hanna for girls.
I remember that friend of mine decided how to name a baby before she was born, and when she saw her for the first time, she said the name hasn't suit the baby at all, so she changed her mind. Maybe you should make the list but wait till you see him, maybe he won't look as Nathan at all :)

I like Daniel. With my three kids (and lots of activities with them) I only know one child named Daniel. Its popular, but not super popular right now, at least where I live. More parents seem to be going for different names right now. I know several Nathans and maybe 1 Luke. But I think Daniel would be a lovely name, especially if its your favorite.
I included a social security name list for the USA if you are curious.

I know a lot more boys named Nathan then I do who are named Daniel.

I actually think you may be looking at an older list. If you like the name Daniel--name him Daniel. It's a strong name. Don't worry about popularity--it really is not that popular!

Congratulations!!!

Don't think there are many Nathans presently. Would be good to find out what the name means? Like you I like classic Strong names. My boys are Robert and Gregory and they are the only one's in the school. I always think it is worth thinking about what a name might be shortened to as well. Nate sounds ok? Good luck!
