Tell him you don't want to be enemies but staying in contact so soon after breaking up is not good.

Tell him no contact for x amount of weeks. That should give you time to get over the breakup a bit, and gives him the chance to prove if he truly wants to be friends with you, or just wants to keep you hanging on. If he doesn't contact you after time's up, you know how he feels about being friends...

He still likes you, and you need to figure out why he broke up with you, if you still like him. Or, if you don't like him, you need to stop taking calls- it's not mean, he's the one that broke up with you. He could just be having a hard time letting go, especially if you two hung out a LOT.

I assume that you have caller ID, so I would just not take his calls for a couple of days and then call him and say "sorry I didn't call you back, I've been busy with.....". Eventually he'll get the picture that your life doesn't revolve around him, but you can still be friends.

SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T. EXPLAIN TO HIM THAT SINCE YOU ARE NOT TOGETHER THAT YOU HAVE TO MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE AND YOU WANT TO STAY FRIENDS BUT HIS CALLING HAS TO GO DOWN A NOTCH. AND IF HE CAN'T ACCEPT THAT THEN HE MAY WANT MORE, AND FEEL HE MADE A MISTAKE. THATS UP TO YOU. BUT HE ALSO MAYBE JUST CHECKING TO SEE IF YOU REALLY HAVE MOVED ON.
