Olive oil massaged into your skin makes it very soft.
If you cut open grapes and rub the juice on your face (use 5 or so grapes), leave it on for about 15 minutes, and wash it off...your skin will be very soft and feel very clean.
Using a dandruff shampoo on your face will exfoliate the skin if you take a small amount in your palm, mix it with some water, apply it to your face, and leave it on until it dries. It stings a little bit sometimes (which is usually when I wash it off), but it has worked very well for me.
Honey can make the skin soft, and you can mix it with some grainy substance (I use sugar) and massage it into the skin as an exfoliator.
All of the other home recipes, to be honest, have not done much for me at all -- especially the ones that involve a mixture of ingredients for masks or scrubs. I wouldn't go out and buy anything to fancy...in my opinion, you don't really need to.
A couple truly excellent skincare products I've come across lately, though not necessarily "home made," are jojoba oil (called "nature's cleanser") and emu oil (which makes the skin very soft. Both can also be used on the hair. You can purchase them relatively cheap from http://www.healthyhairplus.com
Oh! And vitamin E oil! You can buy it at some grocery stores in a small bottle as the oil itself, or you can just buy the capsules, cut them open, and apply the oil to your skin.

I have been making my own mask at home for years. DIY (do it yourself) mask is great, it is cheap and natural. However, do not use fruit with a lot of acid, it might burn your skin. One mask is safe and easy, I have been using it for years without any problems.
Name: honey oatmeal mask
Ingredients: pure honey, oatmeal, hot water
soak 2 tablespoons oatmeal in very hot water, let it cool down, drain the oatmeal then you will get some very thick milky liquid. Add some honey in it, stir it then use it.Wash it away after 15 minutes. People with sensitive skin should pay more attention if your skin doesn't feel right.

You can browse for some simple and easy ones here (http://beauty-tricks.com/index.php?option=com_facileforms&Itemid=&ff_name=ReviewList&ff_param_section=8&ff_param_cat=46&ff_param_limit=10&ff_param_order=SubmissionDateNew), depending on the functions you need. I would vote for the plain yogurt mask, it's really good.
