You do whatever social services tells you to do in order to get your child back.
In some cases the parents, or parent can never again be deemed a better choice for the child than foster care. In that case you have to cut your losses and work on making your life better without your children, since theyre obviously in a better situation.
However, its in the best interest of the state and the courts to do all in their power to keep children with their parents, or to reunite them after a spell in foster care.
Contact your local child services office and ask them what to do for your particular case.

As the previous answer states, do everything social services tells you to do. In addition, if there are other things you can do, other programs, becoming more involved at your child's school, etc...do those too!
Also, it depends on why your child was taken away in the first place. If you really want your child back, you should be willing to do whatever it takes, including changing jobs, friends, significant others, housing, etc.
If you work w/social services, they will work with you.
Also, communication is KEY. If you have to miss an appointment, etc for a valid reason...make sure you communicate that.
Dependency Judges are very fair. If you work hard, they will reward you, if you fail however, they will do what is best for the child and a lot of times that means keeping them away from their parents.

I just sent one of my foster children home a few months ago. His mommy worked VERY hard and jumped every time the judge said to...in other words she did everything she was told to do and then some to get her son back! It's been a battle since he has been in the system for many years...but he is adapting quite well. I suggest if you are in this situation or someone you know...the case worker, judge, foster parents, CASA, and therapist are on YOUR SIDE...they are NOT against you and reunification is the MAIN goal, but if you can't do what is asked of you, then termination will occur as it is with one of the other foster children I have living in the house!

"Has anyone gotten his or her child back from a foster home?"
My friend knows someone who did. The child was removed because of unsuitable living conditions. The mother had to clean the house (serious, deep cleaning) and keep it that way for follow-up visits. She got her daughter back after 2 months.
