Not to sound rude, but..

Has anyone ever actually met a satanist that WASN'T currently being evicted from their apartment for non payment?? Or DIDN'T hate their step-father??

I have no problem with non-believers, but when you go worshipping the devil you're just trying to shock someone, IMO.. and the few people I have met that claim to be satanists are already losers for other reasons..

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences with "satanists"

I had a friend who was a satanist. He was a really nice guy, didn't borrow money, very financially responsible (we worked together, in a large corporation). He was a good friend to his friends, ignored people who tried to be his enemy (or laughed at them), didn't put down the religious beliefs of other people (because, quite frankly, he didn't CARE), and didn't walk around announcing that he was a satanist (though he didn't hide it, either).

So, in answer to your question, YES.

actually, most satanists don't believe in the devil. There are really two main types of satanism to those who would call themselves satanists.
One is actually what the name brings to mind: worshiping the Christian devil and the other recognizes Satan as just a life principle. "It is important to realize that the Satan that they recognize has few if any points of similarity with the historical Muslim or Christian concept of Satan. The Satanists' concept of Satan is Prue-Christian, and derived from the Pagan image of power, virility, sexuality and sensuality. To almost religious Satanists, Satan is a force of nature, not a living quasi-deity. Their Satan has nothing to do with Hell, demons, pitchforks, sadistic torture, buying people's souls, demonic possession, performing miracles, human sacrifices, cannibalism, and profoundly evil deeds. " -religioustolerance.org
Of the first definition though, those who claim to worship the actual christian devil, in my limited experience, most of them are not that serious about it and only do it for the shock value and to give themselves a certain image.

there are different kinds of satanist.
people who actually worship the devil- most famously being Richard Ramirez

then there are people of the church of Satan- who don't believe in anything not of this world.
and I've met people who weren't bums and were satanists. my friend who just got accepted into a graphic art degree program and another person I know who keeps their own one-bed room apartment paid for. both have good relationships with their moms, dads and step-dads I don't know

Satanism is a branch of Christianity, so therefore actual satanists are not non-believers. I have yet to meet a sincere satanist, or at least one that admitted to said beliefs. I do not however, think it is appropriate to make such assumptions. The vast majority of very religious Christians I know are overweight. It would be pathetic of me to assume that all fat people are very religious Christians, or that all very religious Christians have self-esteem or self-control problems that lead to obesity.

Well hello! I understand what you mean, sadly, those individuals only THINK they are Satanists, but in reality all of us have bad times to go through, but it is the philosophy of Satanists ( Real LeVey-ians and the Church of Set, not those silly kids who run around dressed like a hot topic goth wearing upside down pentagrams...they wouldn't know our symbol if it bit them in the ***) to be the absolut best we can be, thinking clearly for ourselves and not with the "heard" mentality...you would be suprised to know many of us are your lawyers, judges, nurses, doctors and other very well educated and successful people. That is our true Lifestyle.

ok, you've for sure been listening to the Christians for slightly too lengthy... Satanists do no longer worship the devil. in any respect. They worship devil, yet of their faith devil skill capacity, so in truth the completed Satanism situation is about self empowerment. no longer worshipping the devil or attempting to strengthen the lifeless or sacrificing farm animals of any style. Satanism is an atheist faith (an oxymoron, i understand), and as such Satanists do no longer trust in God or the devil, so that they can't be adverse to him. See what i'm announcing?!?!

Yes, I have met Satanists who weren't losers. They come in all stripes, just like any other group of people.

Yeah, they mainly seem like pretty low class individuals, a desperate crowd. Very similar to the "white power" people, same type of rejects

I've never met a satanist.

I have met a few sort-of Pagans. They're more like disgrunted Christians who can't quite sort out what it is they hated about religion.
