This guy may love you but he sounds too needy to me.
I would back off a bit from this....begging is never good.

i don't really understand this question..... if u mean that he means just friendship, then ok :) no problem .... but if u mean that he's trying to "buy" your love / care / attention / listening ear for all his worldly troubles and he doesn't care a hoot for you but is just a selfish, immature guy, then you have to ask yourself if you are prepared to accept that you can ever only really be a friend (at best) or a listening board / doormat (at worst) for this guy ; and it's up to you whether you are prepared to accept this truth
