My kids are 10,8, 3.5 and 10 months. I tend to avoid visiting people or having visitors, especially those with young children, even if my kid(s) only have a cold or a runny nose. Likewise I avoid visiting people when I know they are sick, even if it is just a cold. Would you say this is common practice or is it overly cautious?

I do the same thing. When a person has a cold, they are expose to a certain strain. If your child has one particular strain of the cold virus and the person who is near you has another, chances are your child will be exposed to the new one and you'll think they just have a long cold. Keep up the good work!

My daughter has been in daycare since she was 3 1/2 months old so all that went out the window. Her doctor actually told me that kids get sick LESS over time when they are exposed to more germs because their bodies have a chance to battle them off. Now, my daughter is only 18 months and I can count on one hand how many times she's had a cold.

i work in daycare - a room full of 9 one year olds. they all get colds and still come into nursery, if they didnt they would be off loads and that cant really happen if u are a working mum and paying for daycare. all kids get runny noses i dont think it does anyone any harm to be around them.

I don't think that you are overcautious, just considerate. Some children have a low resistance, and your child's cold could make them get something worse. If you have to go somewhere, then I just try to make sure everyone is washing hands often, and not touching stuff.

I do the same thing, but around here I'm an oddball. Most people I know don't seem to care about exposing your kids to their cold germs or their kids to your kids' cold germs.

It's a little cautious. We can't protect our kids from every germ but that being said perhaps it would spread much less if everyone did the same!

I feel the same way as you do, I do not go visiting or invite people over when my kids have colds. I think it is rude.

i imagine that you need to call the host and make an apology that you cant make it, yet that your baby is ill. The host might want to understand, as a results of the truth she also has a baby, and could comprehend the potential for taking a baby to a celebration on account on the germs your baby ought to get or bypass on. quite frankly, i imagine a birthday party for a baby at 8:00 is slightly extraordinary, yet when your baby feels extra perfect by the time of the party, you need to guage bringing him. of route, if on the party he finally ends up getting drained or perhaps with it should be, you need to make an apology and take him abode. wish i ought to help! ******

My sister-in-law used to always come over with her sick kids and when I said something she would always say "its just a cold" and then my kids would always get sick and I would be mad. My daughter had asthma and allergies and when she got sick she would get really sick, like pneumonia, and it made me so mad.
