I know I'll decide to become popular in the public eye. I'll take something that most people hate - smoking and do something about it. I'll collect a few photos of diseased lungs and some carrot sticks and then stroll into pubs and confront smokers with the pictures and then offer them carrot sticks to help them give up. Of course a camera crew will be following me about and get some great footage of me lecturing to the smokers about the health benefits of quitting and seeing me get upset and angry if they don't follow my advice. After the program is released I'll be made a saint in the public's eye. (Not a smug, self-serving, media whore)

Oh yeah, I'll also get an obvious affectation like a moped, or better still a 1930's open topped Bentley. A catchphrase will also be needed, unfortunately 'Pukka' is already being used so I'll choose 'Just listen to me for a moment', there - done. I'll also assume a massive sense of superiority over everyone, after all I'M helping THEM out of the goodness of my heart (and in no way to boost my popularity with the public and so help sell my crappy books and that ridiculous garlic shaker thing).

Jamie Oliver is a hypocrite. Have you seen his latest christmas advert advertising food which he normally tells us not to eat? And the size he is getting too. Thats not all due to carrots and sticks of celery is it. I'd say too many 'pukka' pies. At my grandsons school, the children are not allowed in their lunch boxes, sweets, crisps, biscuits, cheese strips, fizzy drinks, to name but a few, the teachers go through their boxes and remove any such items. I've no doubt the teachers are stuffing themselves in their staff room with 'unhealthy' foods. And all this in the name of 'jamie oliver'. My grandson then comes home and starts telling his parents how 'bad' certain types of food are, even when his mommy offered him a cake!! He, even at 5 years old, told her all about the calorie content in it. We/my grandsons parents have no intention of stuffing him with too much 'bad' food, but they are allowed to have some now and again. It is getting really difficult to try and find something that the children will eat that they are allowed to put in their lunch boxes. And now we see jamie oliver piling on the pounds. I wonder what he eats for lunch? My grandson is a bit on the skinny tall side, and is constantly on the go, so burns up lots of calories, so really it wouldn't hurt him to be able to eat a little more 'calorific' food. But jamie oliver is brainwashing them, what right does he have to do this. What happened to all this new 'freedom of right' thats about nowadays? So, Yes Whoey, i agree wholeheartedly with you. Thanks for being one of them to stand up and be counted, others are to afraid to do it. P.S. Can't stand the hypocrite anyway.

On what grounds do you base your claim?

I would not quite put Jamie in the category of "National treasure", but as a Chef de Cuisine myself, Mr Oliver is inspirational. He is a chef who has enabled, through his books and TV appearances, many keen domestic cooks to move towards the creation of haute cuisine in their own homes.

My style of cooking is more robust than that of Mr Oliver, and is based around the onion and the tomato as the basis for jus or sauce as the foundation for my dishes, but I often try Jamie's latest ideas and incorporate useful aspects of his style into my own oeuvre.

It beats Burger and fries, hands down! As for obesity - would one really trust a skinny chef!!!?

Don't knock him , He is a good cook and makes a lot of money
using his humorous approach
,
He has also run a successful,campaign,
, to improve children's school dinners .

there can be all sorts of reasons, why he has gained weight , but that in itself ,should not detract from what he does .

certainly does not give anyone, the grounds to insult him

Or is this just ,an envy thing with you ....

errmmm you really don't like him do you, All he has done is to use his public persona to encourage a healthier eating regime in schools, with some degree of success, you begin to realise this needed doing when you see tv images of kids being fed fat greasy slops through school railings by fat greasy slob women.

Oh and minimo, you didn't upset anyone you just made yourself look as small minded as this chap.

Whoey if you had worked as hard as this young man has done then perhaps you will realise what he has achieved not just for himself but for others in his short life. Then perhaps you would show him some respect.

People like him. I can't see why - but it's their choice. At least he has tried to make kids a bit healthier.
