Amnesty will help in that all those illegal immigrants that are working under the table or using somebody else's ss# will now have their own to work from, taxes will be paid by them and minimum wage will go up, meaning that all those Americans complaining that illegals stole their housekeeping and crop picking jobs can now go back to happily doing these jobs for better pay. Im not saying all illegals should get amnesty, only those proving to have worked steadily for the past 10 yrs, with no criminal record and never been on gov aid should be considered, all illegals in our jails and committing welfar fraud need to be deported post haste. The legalization process needs to be revised, made cheaper and shorter, encouraging people of other countries to go about it the legal way for the benefit of everyone. But before any of this can be implemented, I firmly believe our borders must be sealed!!

Good point but here is another truth. The cost of labor is only a small portion of what determines the cost of the end product. In the ag world shipping, processing, and chemicals determine the cost more so than the people harvesting the crops. When the wages in this type of work is held low due to illegals filling the job not only is tax revenue lost through the guys working under the table but also from the people who are working legally and paying into the tax system (taxes are based on income earned). With less money being made due to the wages being driven down there is less consumer spending. Amnesty also brings with it the problem that the people who would be getting it are of below average education and there fore would be limited in their ability to make a living wage( after amnesty the guys who are given amnesty will demand a pay increase to the min wage.) In Bakersfield Ca the average family of 4 requires 58,000 a year to live over the poverty level and it is hard for an uneducated person to make that kind of Cash legally. NO TO AMNESTY

There was an amnesty about 17 or 18 years ago. Those that got amnesty were not made citizens, they did not get the right to vote. They did get the right to work legally. They did get the right to file income tax and get a a refund if they over payed and to pay the difference if they did not pay enough. The Mexican illegals made up less of half of the illegals that showed up to get amnesty. Instead of amnesty I would like to see a work program like the US had up until the 70's

Amnesty can only solve part of the problem.
We need 1) Border Security 2) Guest Workers/Legal Options and 3) a Selective Path to Citizenship
Why the selective path to citizenship? I believe that amnesty is most needed by those children who were brought here at a very young age and have assimilated the culture of the U.S. and don't relate to the culture of their parents' country(ies), and therefore could be productive members of our society if they received citizenship. I have met many of these types of illegal immigrants in school and many are very intelligent, some barely speak Spanish and truly could benefit the United States and we would be lucky to have them. In short, the DREAM Act. Other people applying for amnesty should have their situations reviewed case by case by this is the group that I believe should unequivocally receive amnesty excepting that they have committed a felony, and other exceptions (see the source). Realistically, the government is not going to hunt down every immigrant and deport them, so we need a way for them to be able to become legal and contribute to society.
Guest Workers/Legal Options: We need ways for people to come into the United States to work legally. There are many industries in the U.S. that are understaffed, particularly where I live the poultry industry, and the fact is that many factories are moving down to Mexico because they cannot find labor. If we had had a guest worker plan in place, amnesty would not be needed now because people would just come to work and then go back. Most people do not want to leave their countries forever, they just come to make money. Since security is on the border has gotten stricter, people have decided to stay and thus brought their wives and children, creating a bigger problem. We do need the labor, and if we can admit people to come and work legally then the illegals will be in low demand. Illegal immigration will never stop completely, but those who would opt to hire them over legal immigrants would then be easier to prosecute because they would probably want their workers in slave-like conditions.
Border Enforcement: This is a no-brainer. But even if we have border enforcement, it will not stop people from coming illegally as long as there are jobs available and too few Visas. This is why we need the other two. It cannot stop at border enforcement because there will always be ways around that as long as the demand for labor in the U.S. is there and desperate people are available to fill it.

NO! The Senate's bill, or something like it, might desire to be burned with the the remainder of the rubbish! Amnesty is unfavourable and incorrect! every physique that thinks deportation is extra high priced than giving the 20 to 30 MILLION criminals citizenship is ignorant! in straightforward terms for the retirement costs, it replaced into predicted to cost American taxpayers over $2 TRILLION. that's money that would desire to be going to human beings, no longer the electorate of distinctive countries. The illegals are already costing taxpayers BILLION each and in line with annum. The anchor toddlers get welfare. They get unfastened education and wellbeing care. in case you actual think of that giving them citizenship skill that they initiate paying taxes, you're listening to the incorrect human beings. If the illegals had to initiate submitting a tax return, no longer in straightforward terms might they pay 0 taxes yet they might in all probability get a reimbursement. as an occasion, Mr. & Mrs. unlawful have 5 little ones (AKA dependants). Their tax legal duty could be decreased for his or her dependants. when you consider that they have a low income, this tax liabilty might in all probability very small or none in any respect. besides the shown fact that, there is something interior the tax code referred to as "Earned income Tax credit" or EIC. this suggests that their legal duty is decreased even extra effective. besides the shown fact that, say they have 0 legal duty and the credit is $500. this suggests they get a reimbursement of $500 - AKA unfastened money from the U. S. taxpayer. In different words, the illegals nevertheless pay 0 taxes and the tax payer gets screwed!

Unless the govt of Mexixco is forced to take care of their poor, amnesty is the humane solution for right now. This has nothing to do with our country's problems. What does the war in Iraq have to do with illegal aliens. What do illegals have to do with Venezuela. This are just 2 of the countrys the USA govt has wasted billions for the benefit of elite groups.

Amnesty is a dangerous thing, for everyone, but, there will be a lot more Mexican's killed than American's. American's have a natural instinct to fight against injustice, where Mexican's will lay down, and lose their own country to corruption out of fear!
Oh, sorry, I'm not pro-illegal, but thought you might not mind my freedom to answer you! LOL

If we did give them amnesty, I would expect them to start paying taxes for everything they have thus far gotten for free. Then, you "Secure the border" with a humvee and a M-16 every 100 yards.

Fifty-six percent of Americans polled say the U.S. should NOT grant temporary-worker status to foreigners who are here illegally, as this would make them and their families eligible for government services while they are here. We should not reward people who have broken the law, and this will encourage even more people to enter the United States illegally.
NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll, March 10-13, 2006
Legal immigrants deserve respect. Illegal aliens are law breakers who do not deserve jobs, amnesty, educational subsidies, driver's licenses, and other benefits at the expense of U.S. taxpayers. Illegal aliens first should be encouraged to Go Home voluntarily and then humanely deported as the law requires. Once the public recognizes that jobs and benefits equal encouragement the public will truly press for the flow to cease. Amnesties for illegal aliens have clearly made the problem worse and should be vigorously opposed.
