Depends on my mood, the stranger and the small talk.

In general I don't really find it annoying. I find it depressing how many people walk around in cities and never say a word to each other and should they dare to talk to someone they haven't been formally introduced to then they are deemed a weirdo or get rudeness as a response. I would rather deal with someone speaking to me about the weather than standing in silence with a group of strangers in a confined environment.

Unfortunately, our culture is getting farther and farther away from being polite to our neighbors and so we do tend to get annoyed by greetings from strangers. When you take a minute to think about it though, it's really the polite thing to do to strike up a conversation with someone on the elevator and if you lightened up a bit, it would probably make you feel good.

I am naturally a very quiet person. I prefer not to say anything unless I have something meaningfull to say. I have had to learn how to do small talk and force myself to do it because if you don't do it other people feel uncomfortable with you. If others feel uncomfortable with you you miss out on opportunities. So while I may be thinking stop the moronic mindless chatter about the weather I will smile and agree that yes it is indeed a nice day.

I guess you need some teaching in etiquette. It is actually polite to make small talk in an elevator. At least wish them a good day. I think you have some anger you need to address buddy.

Well.. you're obviously not a "people person". Some like to talk. It would be better if more people interacted with each other, then there probably won't be so many feeling so lonely this time of the year. I think it's nice when people respond to us that do like talking with others. :-) Some just bond better with others.

Sometimes it's annoying and sometimes no. Depends on the stranger, and what kind of small talk they are making.

I guess I don't really mind it but it all depends on the modd I am in. I generally hate making small-talk, period.

I was at the eye doctor recently with my daughter and this guy was in there with his son. We were both waiting to be called and this guy was talking to his son loudly but looking at me as if he wanted my input, too. I tried not to make eye contact. When that didn't work, he went right to small-talk conversation with me. I didn't want to be rude, but I just wasn't in the mood.

it all depends on what the small talk is about...if its something like hey my dog has fleas then yes they should STFU...but if its something like hey there is a hand grenade in here then i will be more than happy to listen

You are rude. The problem with you is that you find friendly people to be irritating or annoying. Perhaps, you should try being friendly and pleasant occasionally. It doesn't take much effort to be nice and smile.
