I have five. both arms, one leg, lower and mid back. I must say all had the same level of pain. To me it didnt hurt anymore than an Indian burn if you know what that is.
But everyone's level of pain varies

Hope this helps

It doesn't hurt by the conventional standards.

A lot of the sissy answers people will tell you how awful getting a tattoo is, and often what part of the body is more tender than other parts.

In reality, the discomfort of tattooing is often forgiven when the artwork is finished. Nothing truly good comes free so when It's finally time for you to get a tattoo, find yourself a qualified artist who has a portfolio (most do) and a "clean shop" (sterile and clean presence).

In some ways there are more parts of the body oversensitive to tattoos. Most guys from experience will tell you genital areas, under arms and over bones would be the most hyper sensitive. If you choose one of those areas for your first tattoo, you have guts.

Think before you ink! It's forever, unless you are into laser correction, and that hurts for sure. Have fun!!

I reckon 4 things go into it. Your pain tolerance. How bad you want the tatt. Placement, some say over bone hurts worse I found it hurt a lot more on my calf muscle than near my shin! How skilled the tattooist is. If he is heavy handed goes deeper it will hurt more not just during getting the tatt but during healing also. I I like to watch him work if I can, I use slow steady breathing and I swear alot. The artist will also usually have music, tv or dvd on as a distraction. I watched Ace Ventura Pet Detective during my last tatt just after Chrissy. Numbing creams might work but they make it more difficult for the tattooist as it changes the way the skin feels under the needle. It feels like a really bad sunburn that has been knocked to me at least.

Well, it depends on a lot of things.Where your getting it, how good you are at dealing with pain, who's doing it, etc.If your going to get one I recommend focusing on something the entire time, just get lost in it.Works wonders(cause quite frankly after an hour you do really get bored, and tired of someone stabbing you again and again).
I found the side of my torso was probably the worst, my back didn't really hurt all that much at all, the center of my chest was like a medium. People often tell me getting it done on your spine is so brutal but honestly i didn't even feel it. I'm also told that the inside of your arm is painful.

I've never had one... atleast not yet. A have some friends that have a tattoo and many. I've asked them because I'm afriad of pain and stuff... they said it really doesnt HURT, its like a stinging, or pinching, or an annoyance that you know if there but it not really painful. It also depends on where you get it done. Of course you'd feel more if you were getting it right on a bone.

It doesn't matter where you get a tattoo, but how much of a masochist you are. The less of a masochist you are, the more it's going to hurt. By the way, if you do decide to get a tattoo, for god sakes, don't get a butterfly on your lower back....because we all know THAT'S original.

lower back=right above your ***(crack)

I got one on my left shoulder blade. The outlining hurts a bit, but once they start to fill in the colors, it pretty much goes numb. Anytime he needed to press hard, it actually kind of felt like a massage. I've heard the pain depends on where you have it done. Meaning, if I got this tattoo on my ankle instead of my shoulder blade, it probably would've been worse.

It depends where you get the tattoo at. If you get the tattoo on an area that is mostly bone, it HURTS! If on a more fatty area, it's not bad at all.

they're not bad, lf it's over bone, then it hurts a little more then other places. i'm a tattoo artist by hobby, and i did one on myself, if you watch it while you're getting it, i don't think it hurts as bad, because you see what's going on.
P.S.
DO NOT PUT ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT ON IT!!! Neosporin is a BIG BIG no-no!! it makes it fade, only use A&D ointment, or if you can afford it Tattoo Goo is the best.

To me tattoos feel like lots of little bee stings or paper cuts. It hurts at first, but you quickly get used to it. Areas where its sensitive and close to nerves, tendons or bone will hurt more.
