if there was no death and disease then we would overpopulate the world so dramatically and resources would be used up. death and disease make the world closer to perfect.

I believe in the yin & yang the most-every rose has it's thorn. Struggling makes you appreciate other things in life. The earth, both physically and 'spiritually' has both so I'd say, in it's natural state, yes. But, as humans, we need to take better care instead of taking it for granted.
BUT, since the opposite must be around the corner, something should happen to counteract any damage done...maybe 'the end of the world' will be a disease, like the Black Plague' or aliens could attack us...or maybe Dick(head) Cheney will 'accidentally' shoot everyone or global warming will take care of all those in denial of it

Well, let's see... does the suffering of animals count? If so, the world is not perfect even without humans. Plus, asteroids periodically hit the earth and wipe out animals in droves (bye, bye, dinos...) Not that I'd want to deal with T-Rex today, however interesting that would make things! Oh, and I think plants feel pain, too...

Earthquakes, hurricanes, tidal waves etc
I see your point, that its actually mankind that has cursed the earth not the earth its self. But this is far from a perfect world for the reasons I have listed.

A perfect world? Not even close. But if you know truth then you will be in a perfect place eventually.

I believe that everything is as it should be at all times - 'cause God doesn't screw up. Maybe we humans can't see the perfection - but it's there. That's where faith comes in.

An optimist thinks that this could be the best of all possible worlds.
A pessimist is certain that it is!
I no longer remember the source for that.
