Marijuana is the healthiest drug there is better than tobacco, alcohol or any of the hard crap. Also the so called "gateway theory" is complete crap, its because you have to go to the black market to buy marijuana that increases the risk of trying some other black market drug. And the World Health Organization has said it themselves. I'm no stoner (anymore) but I wont touch any of that other crap, like MDMA (ecstasy), PCP, Crystal meth, or even coke.
Most old myths about marijuana causing brain damage and damage to the reproductive system were based on really shotty science and have been disproved.
Also there is far less carcinogens in weed and if you smoke weed you smoke far less of it than people who smoke tobacco, who smokes 20 joints or more a day? And if you use a water bong or eat it then its no where near as bad for you lungs.
Of course smoking it does hurt your lungs, you shouldn't drive, be underage, or be pregnant and smoke, and it does raise your blood pressure, and perhaps slow you immune system.
And the monetary value instead of wasting over a $1billion a year arresting smokers the government could tax weed and make billions to use towards schools and health care.
Marijuana was originally regulated due to racism and business interests look up 1930’s Federal Bureau of Narcotics director Harry J. Anslinger on wikipedia and you'll be shocked by the racist crap he is quoted for.

You are somewhat misinformed. It isn't legal in Canada. There has been some talk of "decriminalizing" possession of a small amount - up to 28 grams, I believe, which is not the same as legalizing it, and even the decriminalization has not yet happened.
In Canada, use of marijuana for medical purposes is legal with a prescription. Many people here in Canada who have cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, HIV/Aids, severe pain, etc. use it for pain control and stimulation of appetite, and it seems to lower eye pressure in patients with glaucoma.
Should it be legalized? Anyone who has researched the issue knows that people using pot don't tend to be violent, nor do they tend to "use and drive", and many people, including many of those working in justice and law enforcement, recognize that it is a far less dangerous drug than alcohol.
If you research it, you will also find that marijuana was not always illegal, and it was made illegal for all kinds of reasons other than those you might think. You may find these sites interesting.

A lot of misinformation here. Marijuana smoke is NOT dangerous - no studies have ever linked it to ANY long term health effects whatsoever. It is impossible to overdose. In addition, the often quoted "fact" that it leads to other drugs has been proven false (http://www.upi.com/ConsumerHealthDaily/view.php?StoryID=20061204-060846-2823r )
Marijuana should be legal - the current marijuana law is based on misinformation, ignorance, and racism (http://blogs.salon.com/0002762/stories/2003/12/22/whyIsMarijuanaIllegal.html ).
Over 50% of the current prison population (that's 1/64 americans) is in jail for marijauana crime - that's hundreds of billions of YOUR dollars being utterly wasted every year to jail people causing no harm to anybody whatsoever. The goverment needs to take a serious look at their policies regarding this drug.
