If someone put Microsoft Office 2003 in my computer but didn't give me a hard copy of it...is that still legal? I know copying the disk and giving me a copy is not ok but....

I know if something ever happened to the hard drive and/or programs I would have to have that person re-install it.

But it's probably done more than it should be?

Sometime Yes, most of the times no. Depends who did it and what type of licensing agreement they have with Microsoft.

A personal copy of the software that was loaded on you computer by a Friend is not legal. If your Friend however has a distribution license then it is legal.

You are correct it is very common for Friends to share their software, but that doesn't make it legal.

No, its not legal, but Microsoft has bigger problems to worry about than if one person installed their copy of Office on a couple computers.

Doesn't sound right. Whomever did that would have to have a volume license - that's how you can install the software without having a CD set for each license - but that doesn't sound like what happened in your case.

Its illegal if they use that copy for more than one computer. unless you have the shiny sticker with the license number on it, you are breaking the law.
