I have fairly light skin, and when ever I drink I get really red. It doesnt matter if its one drink or five drinks. Is there anything that can keep me from getting red while driking.

After reading all the posts, I think Aceyalbe... has the correct answer. From my knowledge and experience (I suffer from red face/ears syndrome too when drinking) that it is actually a good and healthy sign because it means that your liver is working very well because it helps clean the blood and keep it healthy. So there are benefits of seeing a red face :)

There is nothing you can do about getting red when you drink...you just get flustered from the alcohol, and it happens to most people. The only thing to keep you from not turning red would be not to drink, but it doesnt matter if your skin gets a little red, natural blush lol!

That happens to me too! I hate it. Especially because I already have red cheeks and I try to hide it as much as possible. I think I have rozacia,(don't know how to spell it) a skin disorder. Then when I drink it gets totally worse, I look like a tomato. My ears start to burn, I could probably cook an egg on them.

Hope you find out, theres one really good answer up there!

There are certain people who lack the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase which helps breaks down ethanol (the "alcohol" in beer, wine, and liquor) in the liver. This allows acetaldehyde, one of the breakdown products of ethanol, to build up. It is the acetaldehyde which causes the flushing reaction.

There is also a drug called Anabuse, used in treatment of alcoholism, which inhibits this enzyme and causes flushing (as well as other uncomfortable symptoms). There are multiple other drugs which can also cause this "disulfiram reaction."

The "red nose" someone else alluded to in their answer is not the same thing. That is a condition called rosacea, which is not caused by alcohol, but is made worse with alcohol.

alchohol expands the capillaries near the surface.
which is why if you see an old alcoholic they have permanent damage (usually small red veins visible on nose or permanently reddened nose/face). it's hard to change the physical effects of alcohol. it's like asking not to get drunk when you drink.
i recommend actually not drinking much (putting in a lot of water or mixer) so you don't have the impact.

That guy Aceyalbert hit the nail right on the head - you lack the enzyme to break down the alcohol in the liver- perhaps you should reconsider drinking. A little soda water with lime is quite tasty.

I have the same problem after 3 drink, cheeks get red and I get warm. That's why I usually drink nonalcoholic mixes. I don't at a party drink more than one glass and usually share it with my hubby.
