In the Shi'a tradition of Islam, Mahdi is the Twelfth Imam, a martyred figure whom Shi'ites believe has become "hidden" and will eventually return. He is an eschatological, messianic figure in Islam, similar to the role played in Christianity by the eschatological, messianic Jesus (of the Second Coming).
So, in fact, the sentence makes a great deal of sense. It refers to the anticipated world-saviors of two religions much at war in the world today.
Regardless of whether one believes that Jesus will return, or Mahdi will return, or neither will return, one may reasonably hope that the very similar monotheistic religions of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism should be able to set aside their centuries of barbaric conflict.
That process is not assisted by ill-informed rejections of the beliefs of others.

Most would say Mahdi is just a title for Muhammad.
The Mahdi, according to majority Sunni and Shi'ite tradition, will arise at some point before the day of judgement, institute a kingdom of justice, and will in the last days fight alongside the returned Islamic prophet Jesus against the Dajjal (Antichrist or false Messiah).
The bible was made to guide the Jews so when it did not mention Arabs directly they took it upon themselves to create their own messiah (muhammad) and elevate him to Jesus status (or lowering Jesus to Muhammad's status according to Muslims).

There was a Mahdi who appeared in the Sudan in the early 20th century; he successfully beat the British under General Gordon..see the Movie Khartoum with Charlton Heston.
The Mahdi's mission was to convert the whole world to Islam but he was defeated by another British General and died of sun stroke in the desert.

You have the right to believe that Jesus said "...come to the father except through me...." fine, we are not joking about this. Can't you show some respect for our beliefs too? Mohammed al-Mahdi is a descendant of Prophet Mohammed, from the only daughter who had children. He is one of the Prophet's great, great....grandsons. You have the right to laugh at us, in private, but at least not use the term "the heck"...you people hate respect or what?

Imam Mahdi (aj) is going to lead the battle on the day of judgement (at the end of the world) Most suuni's do not belive this because mahdi is one of imam Ali's grandson's and sunni's won't tell you much about him because this is a shiite revaltion....

because it really is a position mandated through the structure. a similar structure that provides us the liberty to evangelise. hence there is no longer something incorrect with the placement. agencies have presidents to preside over them and safeguard the pastimes of the stakeholders. the authorities is a organization. The president presides to guard the pastimes of the stakeholders, the electorate. the actual reason that Christians to no longer vote or get curious about politics is that the president is likewise the commander in chief and he can launch an attack on others and that ought to advise that he should be killing those who're our brothers interior the religion in different international locations. it really is why we do not vote for them because we do not want to help such issues.

The Mahdi is the Muslim Messiah, more or less. He is NOT God or thought to be god, but just a man who is chosen to do God's will (like Moses, Abraham, etc.) And the Muslims certainly don't think of him as a 'tag-along': they reguard Jesus as another of the prophets, but not God (they think he did not say he was God while living, and others spread this story about him after he left...)
