Kind of depends on what the statute reads but it could very well be a felony. Were there visible "no trespassing" signs? How much was the stuff you stole worth? You for sure commited a crime...but I'd have to read your statute to know for sure.

Without knowing what State you're in, it's hard to say. The difference between Texas and Massachusetts for example is enormous. These are hard felonies, and the kind of felonies that get people's emotions up. No one likes the idea of their home being invaded, their family placed in jeopardy, and their property stolen. People like him are why I keep a shotgun and pistol next to my bed. The laws in every state are stiff. They're just a lot stiffer in some then others. The absolute minimum I see an ADULT serving is three years. That's assuming a liberal and very defendant-sympathetic court, weak laws, and mitigating factors, combined with parole, good-behavior, etc. On the far end, I'd say eight to ten. That's assuming it's in a State like Texas, it happened in the night, the defendant ticks off the judge, and is a problem prisoner. Remember, we're dealing with at least two felonies. Both of those assume trial as an adult. If he gets treated as a minor, it gets better for him. One year or so and probation. However, because of that, I don't think very many states are going to call him a minor. He committed a big boy crime, he can do big boy time. The few months separating him from his 18th birthday aren't going to mean much. As advised above, get a new friend. This one's going away, and apparently isn't the kind of person you need to be around anyway.

Yes. If you don't own it, stay the hell out. My neighbor shot and killed a guy last year doing just that. Legal in my area to do it also.
