It depends on what type of a person you are and what you are expecting. I know Italians who love the U.S., and I know some who don't. It really depends on what you are looking for.

If you want to improve your economic status, you should know that there is not as much social mobility in the United States as many outside of the U.S. think. If you are middle class in Italy, you will probably be middle class in the U.S. If you are lower class in Italy, you will be lower class in the U.S. It mostly depends on your level of education. You may be able to move up slightly, but not too far from where you are. Your children or grandchildren will have more opportunities than you do, depending on their education.

That being said, the United States is a very big country. There are all kinds of people and places depending on the region. If you don't like one place, you could always move to another state. California, Georgia, New York, Texas, and Wyoming are like five different countries. In the US there is something for everyone: rural, urban, traditional, modern, conservative, progressive, hot, cold, beach, desert, forest, mountains, etc. I would recommend you take a chance.
Good luck!

Life in the United States right now really isn't bad. Depends what city your planning to move to. The economy right now is really unstable though. I would recomend a visit first then decide whether to stay or go home.

Thousands of Americans are trying to figure out how they can move to Italy. Not sure why you would want to come the other way these days.
