It really depends on the child and the circumstances. Each child's maturity level is different. Plus you must take into consideration how far they are walking and do they have anyone else (other kids) to walk with. Safety in numbers and all. In this day and age I don't know if I would let a kid younger than 12 walk to school without supervision. And then they should still be walking with atleast 2 or 3 others.

Because of the way the world is today I will walk my children until they are 18 years old.. My 14 year old son is laughing and thinks that it's ridicoulous, but this is how I feel.

I am afraid to hear some bad news regarding my children.. You should walk your children for as long as you want. They may not like it but at lease you will feel that they are safe because they are with you.. Good Luck too you and your children...

You stop walking your child when you know your child has the basic instincts down.

? If this is a 16 yr old you’re walking, I think its time to let him/her do this along. He or she needs to build up their own intuition and besides it’s a bit embarrassing to still have your parent walk you to school at 16! Try dropping the kid off instead, or if you walk your child to school try to let her/him walk the last block to school while you watch from afar. This way your child builds up their independents and you know they made it to school okay.

He or she will probably let you know. My son is 6 and I always have to walk with him to the bus stop cause he feels uncomfortable around the bigger kids. And there are kids his age that are there by them selves, so the best advise, enjoy your child. Before you know it, he/she will be asking you not to kiss him/her infront of anybody

It really depends on the safety of the area you live in, the maturity of the child, if the child has plenty of other children to walk there with and if there are adequate crossing gaurds.

ok that is a good age to stop but consider how this world is i think driving kids to school is safer than to walk your kids to school because you can get mugged, ran over, etc. and i always took the bus and in 5th grade i walked and in 6,7,8th grade i walked.
