Some people can. You have to practice Meditation 1st if it is not already natural. And yes it can be done.

Automatic writing is something I've seen people try in reputedly haunted places as a method of trying to contact any spirits that may be present.
The theory is that if you relax and try to empty your mind that a spirit may come and take control of your arm and direct the pen across the paper to write its message.
Does it really work? Some people say yes, some people say it;s just the subconscious of the person holding the pen.

Do you mean like free stream of consciousness writing? I'm not sure of the exact label for it. But basically you would start writing and without a care of where it was going or how it was connected you just continue to write whatever you think next.

Don't know if it works, but you are supposed to hold a pencil to paper, then relax and empty your mind.
The hand is then supposed to start doodling/writing of it's own accord.

Ive seen this done an its really freaky, the girl who done it was looking for help in how to stop it she had pages of it well spooky.
