Gnocci works well with cream based sauces since it is a heavy pasta. I make a sundried tomato pesto that tastes great with gnocci:
1 (8 1/2 oz) jar sundried tomatoes in olive oil, undrained
1/4 cup pine nuts, toasted
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 cup grated parmesan
1/2 tsp each, salt and pepper
Blend those in a food processor until a smooth paste forms.
Whisk together 1 cup heavy cream in a large pot and add 1/3 cup of the above pesto, until blended. Heat over medium heat unti simmering, then remove pot from heat. Add your cooked gnocci and serve with additional parmesan.

In Italy you would never find gnocchi served with ragu. Normally it is served with pesto or a hazlenut-gorgonzola cream sauce. Gnocchi isn't the right shape for thick, chunky sauces.
