I am 74. I have been labeled schizophrenic since about 1965. I have been taking neuroleptics since that time with but a few intervals when I got off them to test whether the "voices" and visual hallucinations would come back. The voices didn't but I have had "trouble" with "poltergeist type" hallucinations most of the 40 plus years.
I was able to work in my profession for about 15 years and attended several universities in this time. I was on medication all this time and regularly saw a psychiatrist. It is possible to lead a more or less normal life if you don't succumb to the prevalent opinion you are, "sick to incapacitation". You have to have the will to ignore and overcome the symptoms.
I mentioned that I was labeled Schizophrenic. That label does more harm than good. It is scientifically meaningless according to a group of British psychiatrists who have formed a Committee for the Abolition of the Schizophrenic Label, CASL. Some of them have proposed calling the condition Dopamine Dysfunction Disorder, DDD. This designation attests to the physical nature of the disorder rather than a character defect which the label schizophrenia implies.

"Normal" is such a relative term, so I would say yes. Depending on the severity of the pyschosis, a person can still be a functioning member of society and hopefully be happy as well. There is a lot of support and help for people with mental illness today, especially compared to years ago, so research on the individual problem could hopefully lead to a "normal" lifestyle.

first and maximum ideal, i'm satisfied and suprised which you will save your identity of being a muslim out of your loved ones... it quite isn't any longer ordinary once you're born in christians family yet became to Islam as your determination of religion... you may save your Iman reliable, in no way enable it waver... All this could be a try by Allah s.w.t to objective your staying power and faith in the direction of Islam... Insya'Allah, in case you have will, you may have the means to stay being a muslim as quickly as you reached 18... yet for now, its terrific to tell your dad and mom and family of your new discovered faith... no remember what faith you're in, family are family, they gained't abandoned you... could Allah Bless you, chum....
