If you want to get a dog please research the breeds carefully before settleing on one. Husky's are very smart and sometimes hard to train. They also are very energetic and need lots of room. They are also more comfortable in colder climates. They are a working class dog and need alot of excersize and things to do or they get bored...and a bored dog is one that starts giving you problems. They also need lots of grooming etc. You might want to look into adopting an adult dog for your first pet...look into rescue animals as well. Puppies are a lot of work, espeically if you have never had one before. It can be overwhelming.
If you like larger breed dogs can I suggest a retired Greyhound? They are very placid, smart, easy to train, they are not hyper and don't really need room to run especially if you walk them daily. They don't shed a lot, are usually comfortable in a crate when you are not home, don't bark much at all (unless you get a noisy one). The call them "couch potatoes" because they like to sleep a lot and they are very loving. If you get one from an adoption group they are usually fostered before hand and are house trained when they come to your home. Check out the website GoingHomeGreyhounds.org for more info.
Sorry if I didn't really answer your question...or gave you too much to think about. We adopted two Greyhounds a few years ago and have been in love ever since. It's a shame that these dogs are put down when they come off the track at such a young age.
Good luck in your search...hope you find what you are looking for.

Have you done your research? These are dogs that need a lot of attention and training. They are very active. Collies are herding dogs, so they probably like to "work." Huskies have LOTS of energy. They can become destructive if not given enough to do. Since you've never had a dog before, I recommend something a little "easier." If you're looking for size, Golden Retrievers and Labs are comparatively easier. Or, maybe a mixed breed.

Beautiful dogs both. They will each require considerable exercise fetching, etc. You need to learn training so your dog, reguardless of size, will be well mannered. Recommend "Training your Retriever" written by monks, Excellent source for training any breed, emphasises praise. I have had superior results with the technique. My dogs will walk by my side OFF lead through the city.
good luck.....Oh, the dog will tell you his name (body language, attitude, expressions) after a few days if you are listening, please don't stick some hokey name on him.

You should look at animal shelters. not only for the type of dog u want, but for dogs in general. all animals need companions. what if somone looked at u and said, "ew i dont want that, i want someone named george"???
