We are paying taxes to the Federal, State, County and City Governments. Watch an old western movie and think about how they lived. Dirt roads to begin with. The infrastructure in every city or town in our country. Sewage disposal, garbage pick up. Gas taxes for road improvement, restaurant and motel tax and sales tax. Wyoming doesn't,t have state tax. Each state has a different tax base. Our taxes pay salary for all who are employed in Washington D.C. We the tax payer pay their salary including the President of the United States. We the people are the tax payers. That is why it is important to vote in the politicians that we think will spend our taxes wisely. Every time a bill is passed it means they are spending our tax money. We pay the salary for teachers and all Government employees. Our taxes go toward their insurance and all other benefits, retirement included.
Our taxes finance the military, CIA, FBI, Pentagon, Highway Patrol, City and County Law enforcement, Drug Task force, Fire Dept, Search and rescue and animal control. I almost forgot the freeways in all states and the Coast Guard.
All are service jobs. In other words they serve us the tax payer.
The list goes on and on and on as to what our taxes provide for us to have all the improvements that are necessary for the life style in which all of us live in America.
Hope this will be helpful.

I'm assuming you're writing a highschool level essay. So write your introduction, and then maybe a paragraph on where each level of taxes goes. Like, city, provincial, federal. And maybe a paragraph on why the rich are taxed more than the poor.
