And this food is called among us Eukaristia(5) [the Eucharist], of which no one is allowed to partake but the man who believes that the things which we teach are true, and who has been washed with the washing that is for the remission of sins, and unto regeneration, and who is so living as Christ has enjoined. For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Saviour, having been made flesh by the Word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of His word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh.(6) For the apostles, in the memoirs composed by them, which are called Gospels, have thus delivered unto us what was enjoined upon them; that Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, said,

"This do ye in remembrance of Me,(7) this is My body;" and that, after the same manner, having taken the cup and given thanks, He said, "This is My blood;" and gave it to them alone. Which the wicked devils have imitated in the mysteries of Mithras, commanding the same thing to be done. For, that bread and a cup of water are placed with certain incantations in the mystic rites of one who is being initiated, you either know or can learn. ?

Justin Martyr 95-165 a early christian apologist that most of your protestant theologians call holy and righteous in his wrightings.... may I ask why you do not partake in the same eucharist as the early christians as it is said in the bible?

Friend I am not a Catholic but I do take communion. I do not believe in transubstantiation, though.

The question is poorly framed. Jesus took the bread and wine, not as an original idea, but because it was Passover and He and the disciples were celebrating it, as practicing Jews. Through his additional commands ("This is my body/blood, which will be given up for you. Do this in memory of me.") and the verses in John 6, Christians who celebrate the Eucharist do so according to their own consciences.

If the cult of Mithras included a bread and wine component, it is of no matter. Pagans may have seen power and sought to claim it as their own, much in the same way as the fool in Acts 19:15 sought to drive out demons in Jesus' name, but not knowing Him, was set upon by the possessed man.

And Justin Martyr is considered a Christian Father (as opposed to our Father in Heaven) as were Origen and Polycarp. Their theologies and doctrinal faith are taught in seminaries whether Catholic, Presbyterian, Lutheran, or Evangelical, yet their names are rarely mentioned in any church gathering.

....the cult of Mithra was partaking of eucharist long before Jesus was even a gleam in his Momma's eyes....so to say they copied it is backwards my friend. But you are right...most xians don't correctly follow the commandment of the eucharist.

friend, we do not follow Justin Martyr, although his writings are interesting. We follow Jesus Christ.

Justin Martyr's writings have never been and will never be declared as "inspired by God". The bible - the word of God is inspired by God.

Read the bible and learn what it says. Use that as the basis of your understanding.

God bless
