As far as I know, "idio" is a Greek etymological root meaning "one's own," which is found in words like idiosyncracy and idiot. They both refer to things or ideas that are "one's own."

It means "personal" or "distinct", however if it's for music class maybe it has something to do with a group of instruments called idiophones. They are percussion instruments I guess, but I'm not sure if all percussion instruments can be called idiophones. I have completely no idea where the word "idiophone" originates from, anyway:)
