Urrrg.. I am about to lose my mind!
Something got into my eye and it began itching like crazy. It is now swollen up, red, and has hives all around it. I used some Visine allery drops but it dosent seem to be helping.

I have eye allergy issues quite a bit. I dont know what I am allergic to. I ws tested and only was found to be allergic to cats...which i no longer have.

Can anyone help!?

I should also add that regarding my previous cat allery problem, I had taken numerous methods to lessen my symptoms and nothing helped me. So simply taking an oral antihistamine will not help me a whole lot. :(

Time to see the doctor if it's swollen and you have hives around your eye. Don't mess with your vision.

Visine makes many types of eye drops but it sounds as if you used the one which contains an antihistamine but please check the small print to be certain. You may wish to take an oral antihistamine such as loratadine (Alavert and Claritin) although you should push the dose a bit to 10 mg two tablets daily. Other than that the only choice is to visit your physician but you should remember that it is possible that instead of or in addition to eye allergy something may have scratched the surface of the cornea in which case the treatment is different. I hope that the problem resolves and as always the very best of health to you. jermd

My son gets this, especially around horses. We use Allerest Allergy drops and even though he takes Claritin or Singular for allergies, only Benadryl will help when this happens to his eyes. Also, you may have something still in it, so you need to see your doctor if it doesn't get better. Laying down with a cold rag on your eyes while your waiting for the meds to work will ease some of the itching.

you may need to go back and be retested --over time we can develop new allergies. i had to be tested twice-and things that i did not react to the first time i reacted to them on the second visit

i recommend you go get tested again it can help you alot. if not on allergy shots you may feel better if you started on them

thats how i got the help i so desperately needed.
