Is the Islamic faith out of touch with reality?

Question

Islam is a religion that advocates violence,’ Islam is seen as a faith that does not tolerate any criticism, and rejects all values of modernity and cultural evolution. Islam seems to adhere only to teachings that are firmly anchored in the past. In other words, Islam recognizes neither the present, nor the future. It is perceived as a religion that glorifies death rather than life. Since 9/11 6867 Muslims terrorist attacks made against others, including other Muslims have been recorded .A woman in Pakistan can be raped but needs 4 men to speak for her if she can’t she faces being stoned to death. It is written that Islam will come as a stranger and leave as a stranger (Hopefully that is very very soon). This question is posted in conjunction with many former Muslims that have left the faith. They cannot declare where they are as threats against their lives have been made.

Yes. Most religions are out of touch with reality, especially when the followers interpret religious texts literally. It also depends greatly upon charismatic leaders and such.

I was actually INCREDIBLY surprised to not read an answer to this question that insisted that "Islam is a peaceful religion" . I always love that answer because it means the person has no idea what they are talking about, but are giving such an American PC answer.

Christians had their day in the sun, in terms of being incredibly violent to non-believers... it is just unfortunate that the Muslims have been at it since... well, they formed. No end in sight. It is pretty much an impossibility that the violence will ever end. I mean, it's been going on for thousands of years.

Well leaving Islam is a death sentence and an eternity in Hell. Islam is peaceful and Muslims are the only religious people on this God given Earth that actually adhere strictly to the Qur'an, Shariah Laws, and Hadiths. That law you just said about the women needing 4 witnesses to prove she was raped, that is a Shariah Law. And true Muslims do not question the laws and follow them exactly as they are written. Islam has been persecuted and targeted for years even more so after the 9/11 attacks. Do you know that western nations in Europe are trying to ban Muslim girls from wearing hijab in public and there are some schools in Germany that are trying to force Muslim girls to take physical education? In France there are 11 Muslim girls(may ALLAH be pleased with them) that are facing expulsion from the school they go too because they are wearing hijab? Muslim girls are forbidden from taking physical education due to it is written in the Shariah Laws. So you will not see any Muslim girls taking physical education classes in any Islamic country. Hijab is meant to hide the beauty of girls(beauty meaning their hair) from boys at school. They should not have to do something that contradicts their religious beliefs. TERRORISTS ARE NOT MUSLIMS! As for Islam leaving that will never happen as more and more people from western nations mainly women convert to Islam and that makes Islam stronger. By the way I'm Muslim and am not a terrorist.

Islam was invented in the mid six hundreds. The minds of those who are hard-line believers are still there. The thing that amazes me is how they adhere to the beards, clothing, ideas, and tribal laws of 632 AD. But where comfort is concerned, that's something else. Big flashy cars, air conditioned palaces, air travel, etc etc.
If the Muslims want to convert to Islam, the first thing they should do is to join the twenty-first century.

We are happy with our religion, I mean the ones who cherish it. How can you generalize? See some fanatics and say we are all violent? See an incident in one country and say that our law is unjust? You are not very well informed. You have to live in some Muslim countries (not the one with fanatics) then might have a clearer picture. You seem to be fed by the news...

Nice statement. It seems you have done a little homework. I don;t know if your figures are exactly correct though. I am taking a course on world religion and we are on Islam now. Hower the subject is much deeper than a mere semester could cover. I have done other research on my own and have decided that Islam is definately out of touch with reality. True they believe in one god but all else is insane. I am also studdying Judaism. I don't know who is the real enemy the jew or Muslim.

It is just that we are no longer living in the stone age.

(Breeding 8 to 10 children went out many years ago in civilized counties. Now it is a "bragging point" about being the fastest growing religion.)

Wow, I expect some hot words here.
I believe that it really is out of touch with reality.
I have been in a series of bad chats with one who was a friend and has turned to that religon.

all people are wrong, he is showing terrible hatred,americans are (please excuse this is his words) bastards.
we hve caused the trouble in the middle east. we did not do anything to help win world war 2, and then calls me a bastard with f words flowing across the comuter screen.
I just type to him thats okay it is your choice, i choose a different road to trave, a better road and you cannot anger me. I choose to love instead of hate and kill/
I cannot believe in my own mind that a god based religon gives us to right to kill in his name.
there are passages in the bible that say those that live by the sword shall also die by it.
They kill each other in the name their prophet even, I saw the program of these men who left the muslim religon, they told of the threats against tem. One showed scars where he had been knifed. another would not appear as there were threats against his life as well as his family. Is this religon in touch with reality, I do not think so.this is my own personal thoughts, others have the right to disagree with me. thanks for a good question.

It sure seems that way, doesn't it? I'm sure there are moderate Muslims who aren't being represented at large, but the vast majority of press that Islam gets is all negative. I whole-heartedly agree that ALL faiths are out of touch with reality. It just manifests itself worst in Muslims and Xians.
